Job Description - Senior Network Engineer I
The Senior Network Engineer I helps manage all network, voice systems, and servers systems. This position performs a wide variety of complex tasks in software/hardware maintenance and operational support and will work closely with the technical support and engineering team members toward these endeavors. The engineer's responsibilities will be to implement, manage, analyze, diagnose, monitor, audit, document, troubleshoot and resolve issues with SMS's server, network, cloud, VOIP and other related systems. This position will also assist with IT projects and initiatives both large and small, establish excellent rapport with vendors, contractors, service providers and internal customers. Will facilitate liaison functions between other Information Technology teams, and provide mentoring and coaching to team members as needed. Will work under supervision as determined by the hiring manager.
Responsibilities - Senior Network Engineer I

  • Will troubleshoot complex server, network, VOIP, hardware and software issues
  • Maximize network effectiveness by monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimization
  • Manage and monitor Voice Over IP systems, Amazon Connect, Ringcentral, and Microsoft Teams
  • Perform switch and firewall configuration and support in line with IT security policy
  • Responsible for the data integrity and security on the network
  • Responsible for developing the technology architecture of the firm, including but not limited to hardware, software, networking, systems and support processes and procedures, as well as auditing and documenting the aforementioned
  • Work closely with IT managers to implement strategy and architecture that will benefit the organization as a whole
  • Assess new technologies and alerts superiors to changes that may be appropriate to the mission of the company
  • Cross train analysts on process and procedures within the IT department
  • Provide support for more technically complex issues
  • Configure, document, implement and troubleshoot the following software products; Microsoft Server Operating Systems, Hyper-V, and Email Systems, Network Storage, Backup products, Anti-Malware and Anti-Spam products
  • Trouble-shoot server hardware operating systems and enterprise applications
  • Assist in designing network concepts, structure and connectivity
  • Oversee daily backup of server data files, media, and offsite storage administration
  • Be available for after hours support/on-call as required
  • Foster a positive team environment
  • Ensure confidentiality of internal and external data
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned

  • Technical background Dell compatible hardware and peripherals
  • Technical knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, SMTP, DHCP, TCP/IP, WINS, DNS, and FTP
  • Growing experience with Project Management Disciplines & Tools like Agile
  • Developing PowerShell scripts and functions as needed
  • Strong emphasis on documentation creation and curation of documentation repositories as directed
  • Able to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and coach and mentor less experienced individuals
  • Facilitates excellent working relationships: Leads by example


Qualifications - Senior Network Engineer I
Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in computer related field or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Certification or equivalent experience
  • 2 - 4 years' experience with
    • Ethernet network environment and related wireless technologies
    • Powershell
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 - 2019
    • Active Directory
    • Exchange 2010/2013
    • Microsoft 365
    • providing customer service support
    • network/server monitoring tools
  • Experience with disaster recovery and planning concepts
  • Experience managing Voice Over IP systems (ex. Cisco Call Manager, Ringcentral, Twillio, Avaya, etc.)
  • Hyper-V management
  • The following experience would be a plus:
    • Azure administration and management
    • Microsoft Intune/Endpoint Managment
    • Unitrends backup solutions
    • Amazon Connect
    • Okta
    • AWS
