Job Description

We're looking for a Principal Application Architect to support the ongoing evolution and maturity of our Enterprise Decisioning Platform. Discover is on a journey to consolidate decisioning across customer life cycle into a single platform that enables an omni-channel view across all products for the customer. This is a key position that would drive enhancements to the platform based on cloud technologies and microservices driven data management.

Responsibilities

  • Continue to enhance Enterprise Decisioning Platform to have high availability/performance, seamless integration (loosely coupled), high quality/reliability, and user-focused adoption models/frameworks while ensuring the platform helps protect our business data and the privacy of our customers.
  • Hands-on experience with owning a technology platform – ownership responsibilities should include technology adoption across the enterprise and business outcome delivery using the platform as well as hands-on experience with architecting/designing solutions across more than 2 types of architectures such as cloud-native backend-architecture, modern responsive web/mobile front-end architectures, micro services architectures, event-driven architectures.
  • Technical consultant for application project teams to enable high-velocity progress on software development stories by partnering closely with the other technology groups within the enterprise to develop re-usable patterns, frameworks across modern software development needs such as API-driven integrations, cloud infrastructure, and deployment pipelines, secure-by-design and privacy-by-design approach for protecting our systems and data.
  • Define platform-level roadmaps and collaborate with technology leaders across the enterprise to align their portfolio-level roadmap and application-level roadmap with enterprise platform roadmaps.
  • Help portfolio leaders and application owners proactively plan and address technical debt, security risks, and technology upkeep related to the use of the platform across the enterprise.
  • Learn new technical skills to effectively drive strategic/tactical adoption by understanding/communicating the benefits, best practices, and challenges of a given technology, product/platform, framework, and software development technique. Learning and teaching should be the core values of a successful candidate for this role.
  • In addition, this individual mentors and guides other technical staff members on adoption of new tools (e.g CI/CD), new methodology (e.g. Test Driven Development) & new technology platform (e.g., Cloud Foundry, Public Cloud).
  • Documents design specifications and installation instructions.
  • Communicates with staff and clients to understand specific system requirements.
  • Drives optimal reference architecture that efficiently and effectively presents an integrated view of enterprise data for both operational and analytical needs.
  • Consult with management to ensure agreement on system principles.
  • Communicates with staff or clients to understand specific system requirements.
  • Documents current state data flows covering interfaces, data stores, transport technologies and the source and destination of data
  • Communicates with staff and clients to understand specific system requirements.
  • Provides advice on project costs, design concepts, and design changes.
  • Documents design specifications and installation instructions.
  • Verifies the stability, interoperability, portability, security, and scalability of system architecture.
  • Collaborates with technology partners to select appropriate design solutions and ensure the compatibility of system components.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Business, or related
  • 8+ years of work experience in Technical, or other relevant experience
  • In lieu of education experience, 10+ years of work experience in Technical, or other relevant experience

  • Microservice Architecture (REST), Event-Driven Architecture, Domain-Driven Design
  • Secure Coding (OWASP Standard)
  • CI with Jenkins, GitHub; Gradle, Nexus
  • Messaging systems: JMS, Rabbit MQ, Kafka
  • Data/Cache Technologies: Oracle, Maria, Redis, Postgres,
  • No SQL technologies : Cassandra, Dynamo, Mongo
  • TDD/BDD; Cucumber/Gherkin
  • Cloud/PaaS Architectures (AWS/Cloud Foundry/OpenShift)
  • Linux
  • JavaScript, React.js, Selenium

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on data architecture experience
  • 4+ years of relevant hands-on exposure to building data and analytics solutions on AWS
  • 2+ years of ETL architecture experience (Ab Initio or cloud-native tools)
  • Experience with variety of databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, Maria DB, Snowflake
  • Built architectural patterns at scale, including thoughtfully-designed data solutions, repeatable data pipelines, and efficient software engineering principles
  • Sound understanding of CI/CD, infrastructure engineering and building future ready technology solutions
  • Experience with building data warehouses, marts, business intelligence reports and operational systems
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of emerging trends in the data space and ability to recommend solutions
  • Experience leading and mentoring other data architects
  • Strong executive presentation skills
