Our QA engineers at Sprout are embedded into our cross-functional product teams, working in tandem with web developers, platform developers, and design to add value and mitigate risk throughout the product development cycle. Our QA engineers take ownership over test planning and automation development, utilizing tools like Selenium Webdriver with Cucumber and AWS to build our our test automation suites and infrastructure.
We’re looking for a highly collaborative, growth-minded, effective communicator to serve as a go-to expert on quality throughout the software development process. If you’re a champion for software quality and can confidently design and build test automation suites, we’d love to talk with you!

Within 1 month, you will:

• Complete Sprout’s New Hire training program alongside other new Sprout team members.
• Develop and deploy changes to our Java/Selenium test automation systems.
• Collaborate regularly with your product manager, developers, and fellow QA engineers to deliver value to our users.
• Get regular team feedback on your code through code reviews.

Within 3 months, you will:

• Focus on writing quality, legible code that provides meaningful test coverage.
• Participate in technical design meetings with your teammates to walk through new feature ideas.
• Decompose larger chunks of work into small, similarly sized units.
• Work with your product manager and developers to create and prioritize quarterly team goals.
• Contribute to our Agile culture of continuous improvement through retrospective meetings and experimentation-oriented thinking.
• Build connections with members from other teams through active networking and community building.
• Build test plans for new features that identify risk factors, mitigation strategies, and prioritized verification tasks.

Within 6 months, you will:

• Dig into the front-end web repository and contribute code to facilitate maintainable Selenium tests.
• Write test documentation and act as a domain expert for new product functionality and use cases.
• Build your engineering skills by attending in-house presentations, workshops, and training sessions.
• Form a career growth plan with your manager and work towards it.

Within 12 months, you will:

• Actively mitigate risk of failed delivery and missed deadlines through courageous, transparent communication with colleagues and stakeholders throughout a project life cycle.
• Lead technical test automation architecture meetings.
• Identify technical debt and performance bottlenecks within our test automation systems, come up with a plan to improve the code, and get it pushed to production.
• Mentor a junior QA engineer, helping them level up technically.
• Build connections with members from other teams through active networking and community building.
• Have opportunities to contribute to in-house technical presentations and workshops that share your expertise with large groups of Sprout engineers.
• Surprise us! Use your unique ideas and abilities to change your team in beneficial ways that we haven’t even considered yet.

Of course, what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but things may shift based on business needs and other projects and tasks could be added at the discretion of your manager.
