What you get to do:
As a Software Test Engineer, you will be a part of the software development team as the testing expert. Our testers view the system from the stand-point of the customer but with the grasp of details, possibilities, and constraints of a developer. You will investigate, query, and test proposed solutions and working software for both business and technical behaviours. You will ask and know how to answer: “did we build the right thing?”
You are part of the entire process, from initial inception of a solution, to monitoring and troubleshooting software in production. Along the way, you will:
- Help stakeholders consider edge cases, and identify holes in requirements.
- Communicate and clarify how the proposed technical implementation will solve the business problem.
- Identify the risks of the proposed solution, and lead the development team in planning tests, alerts, logging, that will mitigate those risks.
- Pair/Mob with developers to build test automation, and to design systems that are testable.
- Explore the newly developed solution using the appropriate software tools, test data, and gut feel to provide feedback on the current iteration of the system.
- Coach stakeholders and software developers on techniques and processes to improve testing and quality of the development life cycle.
- Learn and implement new testing strategies so that you and your team can be even better.
- Design alerting and observability into the services, so you know when they are working in production, and when they break.
What you will bring to the team:
- Independence: You discover what needs to be done, and you do it in an organized way.
- Curiosity: You want to know not only how systems work, but why they work that way. You enjoy pushing the limits of software to see what might happen.
- Skepticism: You don’t assume something works until demonstrated by working software.
- Collaboration: You work well within a team, spending a majority of your time in pair/mobbing sessions.
- Attention to detail: You know that the smallest error can bring down a whole system, so you are always looking for that one thing out of place.
- Web application knowledge: You understand the basics of web app technology and architecture, from the client all the way to the persistence layer.
- Basic test scripting: You know how to send test data to a system, and then assert that the responses are correct.

Compensation and Benefits
