The primary function of the Technical Support Engineer is to ensure infrastructure stability and software and data quality within a complex data echo system through the development and execution of software test plans by way of verification procedures based upon software and system specifications.  This person is ultimately responsible for the overall verification of a feature before it is deployed into our Production environment.  


Responsibilities

  • Provide support to technical support for computing and infrastructure users
  • Perform software and hardware upgrades as assigned
  • Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes.
  • Build and maintain tools to:
    • Automate current processes
    • Facilitate data gathering and test method execution.
  • Execute test plans and create test reports to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction.
  • Participate in risk assessment discussions.
  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable.
  • Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions.
  • Recommend design improvements or corrections to engineers throughout the development process.

Education/ Experience: 
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent preferred with some progressively responsible technology experience with emphasis on infrastructure and QA. 
 

Related Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence environments
  • Experience working with Apple Mac/desktop
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure and computing environments
  • Experience with working in Unix, SQL Clients
  • Experience with working in a Cloud based environment (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Understanding and proficiency with Engineering QA best practices and tools.
  • Proficiency with SQL and basic programming
  • Experience some command line scripting language (e.g. Java, Ruby on Rails, Python)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, working in a distributed, remote team environment and supporting multiple, concurrent projects
