VP of Engineering - Chicago/NYC or Remote (ET/CT)

THE POSITION:
We are seeking a VP of Engineering who will be responsible for the management of our engineering organization. The VP of Engineering will report directly to the CTO and all engineering managers will be reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. The role will require a candidate who is passionate about setting organizational goals and strategy as well as mentoring engineering managers to meet their technical and managerial goals. You will be working with teams that work across the stack and will be in charge of building and maintaining our financial research platform.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Help to define engineering organizational goals and strategy as we continue to grow and expand our technical footprint. (i.e. What does our engineering org chart look like next year? Should we be adding a new X team?)
- Work alongside our CTO and CFO in budget planning.
- Be responsible for hiring great engineering managers and individual contributors across our teams.
- Develop and retain key engineering members on your team and help them identify their goals as managers and future leaders.
- Proactively partner with our product team and engineering leaders to design and build impactful features on our platform
- Take a hands-on approach when needed to help inform architectural decisions.
- Be a decision-maker in future acquisitions decisions. (i.e. Should we buy company x? What technical due diligence should we do?)
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- At least 1+ years of experience as an engineering leader
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining application features on the backend and frontend
- Experience leading multi-month projects from conception to maintenance with multiple team members
- Desire to take ownership and responsibility when a problem or opportunity arises
- Experience working with non-technical teams (product, business, etc) where explaining technical concepts is needed
- Self-organized and able to drive cross-functional efforts
- Ability to decipher “wants” versus “needs” and comfortable negotiating priority of features with product teams
