Farmer’s Fridge was founded in Chicago in 2013 with the mission of making wholesome, delicious food easily accessible, so people can live a little happier and healthier. The Controller will be a critical part of the Farmer’s Fridge finance team. Our team is responsible for providing timely and accurate information to enable solid decision making across the company. With hundreds of distribution points in multiple cities, accounting policies and procedures, controls, and financial reporting are critical to driving understanding of the business with our internal and external stakeholders of all levels.

As the Controller, you will determine the strategy and drive implementation of the team, processes and tools needed to scale a high performing accounting function in our rapidly growing business. This includes managing across multiple functions (i.e., financial and cost accounting, treasury, tax, and financial operations), delivering timely and consistent monthly financial statements with variance analysis, implementing policies and procedures in line with the latest GAAP guidance, and scoping and implementing the systems needed to support our growth. In addition, you will assist finance in ad hoc projects and be a key business partner throughout the company.

As a Controller, you will...

  • Scope, implement and lead all accounting functions, including financial and cost accounting, treasury, tax and financial operations
  • Determine and drive roadmap for accounting team, processes and tools, including near-term implementation of new accounting system
  • Oversee monthly accounting processes (A/P, A/R, etc.) and close activities, including delivery of complete financial statements with variance analysis and other insights into performance
  • Partner with finance and others to lead key ad hoc projects that support scale across the company
  • Identify, implement and maintain accounting policies, processes and procedures
  • Manage annual audit from beginning to end
  • Lead and develop accounting team members
  • Own relationships with service providers like auditors, tax accountants, banking providers, etc.

What are we looking for in a Controller?

  • 10+ years of related work experience, including leading monthly close and reporting. Prior Controller experience preferred
  • An undergraduate degree. CPA preferred but not required
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Passionate about providing timely and accurate insight into financial performance and implementing the processes and systems required to accomplish
  • Comfortable with direct ownership and accountability for accuracy of company-level and segmented P&Ls
  • Ruthlessly attentive to detail while also able to see the bigger picture and balance priorities accordingly
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with execution of plans and bias for action
  • A proactive communicator and collaborator across the company, including with non-finance functions and executive leadership
  • Focused on developing an engaged and highly capable team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and excited to shape an accounting function that supports the company’s growth
