Lead Accountant

We are looking for a Lead Staff Accountant to join the finance team. We are a small team currently, but we’re growing! The finance team manages all day to day accounting/finance tasks and we work with all departments across dscout. We manage all accounting and finance processes, from planning to month end close. If it relates to accounting or touches cash, we’re all about it.
In this position you will be working on tasks in all accounting areas. You will be a player-coach, helping with core transaction processing, but also helping to develop junior team members, work with external providers (audit, tax, contractors), and help to improve processes and procedures. Over time, there is potential for this position to assume managerial responsibilities for portions of the team as well.
What you will do (let’s call them Responsibilities):
- Assist with month end close, monthly financial reporting, account reconciliations and various analyses
- Support the AR, AP and GL functions
- Assist with developing various finance and accounting policies and procedures, and help to write approachable, easy-to-understand training documents
- Implement process improvements across numerous functions
- Assist with annual budgets, revenue and expense modeling
- Handle various annual tax filings and work with external auditors to file timely
- Assist with any future sales/use tax and payroll tax filings outside of IL
- Handle fixed assets and review monthly depreciation and amortization
- Assist with audit requests and help to manage the audit process
What you need to have (we can call them Desired Skills and Background):
- Accounting degree with 6+ years experience
- Strong proficiency in NetSuite -- at least 2-3 years of experience
- Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
- Proficient in Excel and Google Sheets, and Salesforce experience is helpful (internally, we work on Apple computers)
- Desire and ability to potentially manage other accounting staff in the future as the company and team grows
- Able to maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality through your work
Note: As a result of COVID-19, the dscout team has decided to work remotely for the time being. Therefore, we are now interviewing, hiring, and onboarding remotely for all open roles! While our office is temporarily open for teammates who feel comfortable coming in, no current or future employees will be required to come back into our office until (at least) July of 2021.
