Portfolio Manager

The Role: The Investment Management group requires an experienced portfolio manager to contribute to our multi-asset portfolios. Reporting to the Americas Chief Investment Officer, this position will lead the group’s asset class research on the Americas equity team. The portfolio manager will also be responsible for building baskets of individual stocks targeting specific opportunities —for example sectors or countries—identified as attractive according to the group’s capital markets research process. The portfolio manager will join the management teams of Morningstar’s 40-Act mutual funds and its strategy teams responsible for multi-asset portfolio positioning. Along with other senior leaders, the portfolio manager will be responsible for the mentorship and development of analysts and associate portfolio managers and will work closely with others in the investment management global leadership team to maintain the group’s investment philosophy and commitment to analytical excellence. The portfolio manager will collaborate with product, marketing, and sales teams to communicate effectively with financial advisors and clients and drive product adoption. This role will be based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
Lead asset class research for the Americas equity, focused on identifying sector, industry and country-specific opportunities in Americas opportunity set.
Lead efforts to construct baskets of individual stocks to target sector, country, or style-based investment opportunities.
Contribute to the management of the Morningstar Mutual Funds.
Contribute to the management of multi-asset strategies.
Aid in the development and refinement of portfolio management processes and analytics.
Collaborate with other members of the global leadership team to develop and enhance MIM culture.
Advocate for MIM investment principles and approach.
Act as subject matter expert to internal and external audiences via quarterly reporting, white papers, webinars, road shows, and conference presentations.
Support product, marketing, sales, trading, and operation functions as needed to ensure seamless execution and effective communication.
Lead and contribute to the global best practice methodologies investment working groups.
Participate in investment team senior leadership meetings, the US Investment Policy Committee, and other recurring meetings.
Qualifications
Alignment with MIM’s long-term philosophy and valuation-driven process
Significant experience in fundamental equity analysis across a wide range of industries and market segments
Experience in equity industry and country analysis, including profitability trends, competitive dynamics, and the impact of macroeconomic factors
Significant experience with financial statement analysis and corporate valuation
Experience in index replication, including familiarity with index construction methodology and optimization
Willingness to contribute to multi-asset portfolio construction
Demonstrated ability to consider holistic portfolio construction and long-term client outcomes
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent interpersonal skills, team-player
Excellent critical thinking skills for investing
Familiarity with a range of quantitative tools and research platforms
Familiarity with optimizers and related tools
Familiarity with economics and behavioral finance
10+ years of hands-on investment experience
Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred, particularly a MBA or CFA designation
