Description
As a member of the Transfer Pricing team, provide expert tax advice to business divisions and process partners on transfer pricing model application, compliance/audit issues, complex projects and initiatives. Develop and implement complex tax planning strategies. Provide guidance to tax teams and review compliance activities. Support various Global Tax compliance and planning initiatives.

The Senior Consultant-Transfer Pricing provides detailed advice on transfer pricing matters for all controlled companies in the Caterpillar enterprise. The Senior Consultant has deep expertise regarding Caterpillar’s business models, entity business relationships, legal entity pricing models, as well as an appreciation of how the models are applied and the specific types of controlled transactions involved. Such expertise is used to advise business and service divisions on various transfer pricing matters. Specifically, the Senior Consultant provides global audit and controversy support to affiliate entities on all transfer pricing matters in collaboration with tax colleagues, and directly participates in Advance Pricing Agreement and tax controversy efforts (including Mutual Agreement Procedures). The Senior Consultant also engages in tax compliance report preparation, leads improvement projects and business functional analyses, participates in standard pricing model and practice development, and engages with business divisions on the application of such models.
Position requires a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting issues so that the individual can serve as an experienced functional expert on business, financial, and managerial issues within a business unit or service organization. In resolving complex issues or completing transfer pricing projects, the Senior Consultant must have the ability appreciate impacts to the business and have an enterprise view.
The Senior Consultant may direct and lead teams within or outside of the tax discipline on global transfer pricing matters and/or business initiatives. The Senior Consultant provides enterprise solutions to business units and management, maintains responsibility for outcomes, and has strong accountability for results.
The Senior Consultant must have a broad understanding of tax functions, allowing the individual to identify transfer pricing issues that impact decision-making, and to resolve these issues effectively. The Senior Consultant evaluates compliance with corporate and external reporting requirements, as well as business analysis methodology. In providing tax compliance and business recommendations, the individual will be required to perform complex and/or technical analyses.
The Senior Consultant utilizes relevant financial data to render tax opinions and/or provide business recommendations. The individual provides transfer pricing advice/recommendations on strategic business issues and collaborates with both internal and external parties, as appropriate.
The Senior Consultant conducts and analyzes tax research for business unit and global tax planning initiatives, including legal entity and supply chain reorganizations and compliance management. The individual also applies tax research results to optimize enterprise tax effects.
The Senior Consultant analyzes and interprets proposed changes to US and/or non-US tax legislation and regulations, requiring in-depth experience, knowledge and analysis. In providing advice and analysis for both US and non-US tax audits, the individual will frequently work with tax colleagues, local tax examiners, and governmental authorities to successfully resolve transfer pricing disputes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* 4-year degree, preferably in accounting or other related field
* 7 or more years of relevant cumulative experience
Desired Qualifications:
* 10 or more years of relevant cumulative professional experience including history in tax and/or transfer pricing
* Comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar business products, suppliers, and customers
* In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar accounting practices and systems
* Specific transfer pricing experience or knowledge
* Proven record of success and accomplishments at lower levels
* High level of initiative, leadership, and good judgment
* Strong communication skills
* Strong analytical, process improvement, problem solving skills
* Broad understanding of accounting and business processes, systems and corporate operations
