Purpose of the Role

Our Finance team is at the forefront shaping strategic decisions across the company. As a member of the team, the Senior Staff Accountant contributes to company’s success by ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statements. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills, thorough knowledge of accounting principles, strong communication skills and attention to detail.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month end accounting including journal entry preparation and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze expense line item variances and provide explanations to be included in the monthly Executive Summary analysis provided to the Officer team.
  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statement and footnotes submitted to Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.
  • Assist external audit and tax teams by preparing schedules, explaining supporting material and procedures and any other data as needed.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in daily/monthly responsibilities.
  • Cross departmental collaboration and communication on various projects and tasks.


Competences for Success

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Must be proactive with the ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills in order to articulate ideas and thoughts clearly through various means, including written and oral communications with all levels of the organization.


Measures of Success

  • Meeting deadlines, positive attitude, monthly close metrics, successful work cross-functionally to the mutual benefit of all groups involved


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • 2-3 years of general finance or accounting experience, public accounting preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word required
  • CPA, or currently sitting for CPA a plus
  • Oracle and Hyperion experience a plus
