What will your day look like?
You will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the organization’s accounting operations, which includes journal entries, account reconciliations, accounts payable, employee expense reimbursement and other operational accounting support. Work involves analyzing financial data including large data sets, collaborating with internal business partners to identify and resolve reconciling items, identifying process improvements and overseeing the work of direct reports. Resources to do the job require reliance on technical accounting knowledge and prior experience, solid judgment and business acumen, problem solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to analyze and clearly explain financial information. Responsibilities include providing direction, feedback and coaching to team members on work priorities and on resolving escalated issues.

- Reconcile assigned accounts within both the Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
- Responsible for the review of assigned monthly reconciliations and daily journal entries.
- Work collaboratively with various business partners within the Credit Union to resolve outstanding issues.
- Ensure substantive detailed documentation (backup) is provided for reconciling items in accordance with internal policy and complete reconciliation timely.
- Prepare necessary journal entries for reconciling items within accounts and support month end process by ensuring timely resolution and clearing of open items.
- Provide analysis of the monthly expense accruals and verify the accuracy of the monthly entries.
- Provide month end trend analysis to support the accuracy of the financial statements.
- Responsible for supporting ancillary processes with third parties or third party systems including but not limited to completion of daily balancing and reconciliation/posting of data from separate systems.
- Supervise Accounting Operations staff in execution of responsibilities through proactive response to requests and completion of required activities for month-end close, reconciliation of data for calculating incentives, verification of investment transactions in accordance with policy, providing back-up support to immediate team members.
- Manage the Accounts Payable process including supervising the completion of invoice processing by the Senior Accounting Clerk, and approving invoices for final Payment.
- Manage the expense reimbursement process which includes the monitoring of the Concur Audit process, and supervise the Senior Accounting Clerk supporting the business partners and closing the bi-weekly files.
- Supervise Accounting Operations staff to support audit activities of the regulators, internal and external auditors by providing schedules and answering questions.
- Manage the annual 1099 process including the review of vendor W-9s for accuracy.
- Manage the annual filing process of sales and use tax returns.
- Recommend and support implementation of process improvements.
- Serve as knowledge, technical and/or operational specialist within the team and across the AFR group.
- Ensure daily process and critical functions are completed accurately and on time. Identify and facilitate efforts to enhance and improve functional processes and procedures.
- Maintain working relationships through communication with all internal and external customers. Work effectively and productively with others on outstanding reconciliation issues and ad-hoc projects.
- Translate operating plans into meaningful direction of projects, goals, priorities and activities; delivering on strategy through quality execution and best practice adaptation.
- Capture, analyze, and understand the internal environment, team dynamics, and talent capabilities to address organizational refinement, agility and growth.
- Champion Employee/Internal Customer Engagement, employee development and all cultural hallmarks through a strong leadership signature and a growing command of Alliant’s leadership competencies.
- Continually assess and provide discerning development, insightful coaching and talent utilization/optimization for direct reports.
- Apply High Performance Management practices in leading an engaged workforce in order to effectively leverage the full potential and talent of this function.
- Provide a structural and consistent approach to ensure that individual development plans are in place, performance management is consistent, performance management process is respected and followed, and coaching and feedback are provided on a regular and dynamic basis.
Qualifications
What makes you a great fit?
You’ll be a great fit if in addition to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, 5 years of relevant accounting experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience, CPA designation preferred, and you have:
- Master’s degree in Accountancy or MBA a plus
- Financial institution experience a plus
- Advanced skills in primary Microsoft software applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), required
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and deal with heavy volume period with tight time parameters
- Must be detail oriented and possess excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills
- Highly effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Must have the ability to adhere to set deadlines and communicate with various levels of the organization
- Prior leadership experience desired
