What will your day look like?
You will lead and coach a team that oversees the credit process using a data-driven, analytical approach. The incumbent is accountable for the development of lending policies, underwriting and account management standards, and ongoing oversight of lending-related third-party partners. The incumbent will coordinate with Finance on delinquency and loss forecasting as well as loss reserving and provisioning requirements in Lending. Resources to do the job require effective written and verbal communication skills, strong and proven analytical ability, advanced systems skills, demonstrated ability to collaborate with and appropriately challenge all levels of the organization, and effective and consistent leadership capability.

- Create and implement a robust credit risk management oversight framework encompassing all lending products
- Ensure lending activities are compliant with Alliant’s risk appetite as it pertains to asset quality, returns and capital
- Chair the Internal Credit Committee
- Own and manage all lending related policies and standards
- Determine and communicate underwriting standards for each lending product, across the consumer, commercial, residential, and purchased loan portfolios, including loans offered by third-party origination partners
- Determine account management standards for each lending product
- Review and approve any requested exceptions to policy or underwriting criteria
- Select, lead, and provide ongoing oversight for third parties that provide data or underwriting services
- Lead due diligence and ongoing oversight efforts for origination partners, credit bureaus and other lending partners
- Determine criteria for credit card pre-screen campaigns
- Create loss forecasts for each product and monitor and report on actual results vs. forecasts, interacting with the Finance division on loss provisioning, stress testing, and CECL implementation
- Create and provide reporting on the lending portfolio to the Board of Directors, Executive Team and internal governance committees
- Ensure all business development initiatives (strategic partnerships) are supported by policies and procedures, appropriate risk controls and are compliant with the credit union’s risk appetite
- Translate strategic and operating plans into meaningful direction of projects, goals, priorities and activities; deliver on strategy through the right people in the right place at the right time
- Deliver superior results through quality execution and best practice adaptation
- Provide business vision by creating imagery and transparency in the possibilities, opportunities and direction of the future

- Provide a structural and consistent approach to ensure that individual development plans are in place, performance management is consistent, performance management process is respected and followed, and coaching and feedback are provided on a regular and dynamic basis
Qualifications
What makes you a great fit?
You’ll be a great fit if in addition to the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Data Science or related field, required; CFA, MBA or progress toward either preferred, and you have:
- 12+ years’ experience in credit risk management, with demonstrated ability in managing credit risk both at origination and through the account lifecycle
- Prior executive or VP level experience leading credit risk
- Experience in implementing credit decisioning models into both internal and external loan origination systems
- Experience with regulatory examinations in financial services is preferred
- Knowledge of National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Federal Financial Institutions Examinations Council (FFIEC), and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) regulations and guidance is a plus
- Excellent quantitative, modeling and analytical skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior management, vendors, and business and technical partners
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
- High professional standards regarding relationship management, collaboration, internal and external customer service
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment as a collaborative, inclusive, and flexible team member
