Summary

SMS Assist is looking for a Communications and Experience Intern for our 2020 Summer Internship program! An internship at SMS Assist will provide an opportunity to work with a fast-paced, growing company in Chicago’s vibrant technology scene. The SMS Assist Summer Internship program is a full-time, paid opportunity that will run from June 8 – August 14.

 

As an intern on our Communications and Experience Team, you’ll focus on writing and developing a variety of engaging communications materials that circulate valuable information throughout the organization. You’ll also spend a portion of your time on intern-specific activities and learning opportunities, such as executive lunch & learns, personal development workshops, and a group project in which interns will present a business case to SMS Assist leadership and other key team members at the conclusion of the internship. Of course, we have some fun social events thrown in there as well!

 

Responsibilities

  • Write newsletter articles and email content for internal staff
  • Help maintain corporate communication channels including the company intranet
  • Develop posts about company events and programs across SMS Assist’s social media platforms
  • Collaborate with Creative Director to produce engaging videos communicating important updates
  • Interview employees and department leaders for stories and quotes for use throughout the year
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure their communication goals are met
  • Facilitate focus groups and other channels to generate research and feedback on the overall SMS Assist experience
  • Help coordinate a range of inclusive, best-in-class events and programs including company parties, volunteer events, and other engagement activities
  • Provide reporting and evaluate impact of emails, events, and intranet pages

  • Previous experience with photo and/or video, graphic design, HubSpot, or SharePoint is a plus

 

Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a rising junior or senior enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program or a recent graduate
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future (we are unable to hire on F1 or OPT visas at this time for our summer program)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Traits: Attention to detail, team player, self-directed, and motivated
  • Currently pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, creative writing, or a similar field of study
  • Relevant internship experience is a plus
  • Applicants must submit one to two writing samples that demonstrate your ability to communicate in a clear and creative way as part of the application process – examples may include academic papers, articles, blog or social media posts, short stories, etc.  Applications without a writing sample will not be considered.
