Compliance Manager
The Position
Root is looking for an experienced compliance leader with a background in insurance compliance or operations to lead a talented regulatory compliance group and partner with our business teams to fix problems and reinforce the fundamental value of compliance. As part of the Compliance Team, you’ll engage with the Product, Customer Service, State Management, Actuarial, and Engineering teams to be their legal compliance partner and make recommendations for enhanced compliance workflows, processes, and procedures.
This role will be responsible for managing market conduct examinations and inquiries, preparing and submitting required regulatory reports, developing compliance training and education, and developing and monitoring corrective action plans. We’re searching for a critical thinker who is eager to build new processes and enjoys the pursuit of solving complex problems in a fast-paced work environment.
Reports to: VP of Compliance
What you'll be doing.
- Manage market conduct examinations and inquiries for the company
- Prepare and monitor corrective action plans for compliance deficiencies identified in examinations and inquiries
- Monitor, summarize, and track new regulatory requirements and business efforts to implement those requirements
- Work with Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, State ManagementCustomer Service, Engineering, and other leadership to ensure internal processes and procedures are maintained and followed
- Manage annual MCAS filings and MCAS inquiries from regulators
- Develop and administer annual compliance and ethics training Answer compliance-related questions from other parts of the organization as necessary
- Assist with company-wide compliance projects as needed
What we’re looking for.
- 2-3 years insurance background with reinsurance accounting experience and a bachelors degree in accounting or finance
- Preferably with experience in property and casualty insurance accounting and reporting.
- Has or is actively pursuing a CPA, CPCU, ARe, or AIAF designation(s) or other financial certification
- GAAP & statutory insurance accounting knowledge
- Experience driving multiple projects simultaneously, with an ability to work with all levels of the organization
- Independently analytical & curious in nature
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Office products and data analysis tools
- Strong writing skills and succinctly communicates with a wide range of audiences
- Self-starter, with strong interpersonal, teamwork, analytical and partnering skills
