Department Overview
By becoming a part of the Motorola Solutions Software Enterprise legal team, you become a part of helping public safety and commercial customers obtain the products and services needed for the moments that matter. From the legal procurement team working with subcontractors and vendor to obtain the supplies needed to run the business, to the software legal team analyzing new product offerings, to the legal pre-sales team negotiating contracts with customers, to the post-sales project team to complete our contracts as contracted on time and on budget, our team assists, supports and facilitates the innovation and business efforts of Motorola Solutions.
Job Description

The Paralegal is responsible for supporting Software Enterprise. This role will report directly to the Lead Counsel for the Software Enterprise business and work closely with the various leaders across the Command Center Software and Video businesses in order to provide legal counsel from both a product development/management perspective and also a go to market function. The paralegal will assist in building and implementing the legal framework for these growing businesses. This role supports strategies with internal business partners, evaluates risk exposure, and makes recommendations to business partners or legal counsel. The full-time position may be remote.

Job Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, public filings, policies, client communications and/or other legal documents and is tasked with ensuring that documents adequately protect the company and that the company is compliant with law.

• Conducts legal issue identification and analysis, and legal risk assessment at a high para-professional level.

• Assist in drafting and implementing standard contract and agreement template language, ensuring language changes to documents are incorporated based on legal and business requirements.

• Understand both strategic and operational goals and translate them into effective practices in area of expertise.

• Identify potential contractual and other risk issues and articulate those to the team members and to internal business clients.

• Anticipates legal issues and client needs proactively and strategically with an understanding of the business goals and objectives

• Organizes and maintains databases, filing systems, indexes and digests all documentation to ensure proper records and knowledge management procedures and systems, implement new procedures/systems as necessary.

• Maintains working knowledge of relevant changes in statutory, regulatory and substantive laws affecting assigned areas of expertise, assessing effect on current policies and procedures and makes recommendations to attorneys.

• Conducts research, which may include some higher-level analysis in areas of focus. Prepares legal summaries and recommendations based on research.

•Works with legal team and internal clients.

• May provide the first point of contact for clients and department management on legal issues covering area of expertise and/or responsibility.

• May work with outside counsel and other vendors.

Desired Skills/Qualifications

•Works under limited supervision of manager

• Exercises reasonable judgment to determine when to escalate complex matters or decisions to manager.

•Leads small projects or portions of larger projects. Directs and coordinates the work activities of project team

•Strong working knowledge of the US legal system, including court systems, legislative and administrative systems and laws.

• Strong technical knowledge of computerized legal research systems, the Internet, word processing and spreadsheet software, google sites, legal software applications and programs; ability to develop search strategies, report formats and extract pertinent information appropriately and succinctly.

• Sound use of judgment; ability to work independently; sound decision-making skills.

• Uncompromising use of discretion and commitment to confidentiality.

• Strong research and analytical skills and math aptitude

• Excellent attention to detail.

• Strong human relations and oral and written communications skills.

• Strong time management, planning and organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressures of deadlines and to establish priorities.

Preferred Skills:

• Paralegal Degree or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

• Minimum of 4-6 years experience as a paralegal.

• Paralegal certification from ABA accredited Paralegal institute
