About the Team
Camelot’s Corporate Affairs team develops and executes consumer public relations strategies to help raise awareness of the Lottery, promote winning, and showcase the Lottery’s contributions to special causes in Illinois. Our goal is to create a personal connection with the people of Illinois and make people feel good about playing the Lottery. Working as part of a cross-functional team of marketing, social media and digital communications professionals, the Corporate Affairs team supports the company’s overarching objective to promote the Illinois Lottery’s purpose to be a champion for the people of Illinois.
Position Overview
Camelot is looking for someone with the right mix of energy and experience to breathe life into our winners awareness program. As our Public Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for connecting with lottery winners, driving winning storytelling, and building the lottery brand through media relations and content creation.
Responsibilities:
Winner awareness and storytelling
- Drive the strategy for winner engagement and awareness for lottery winners to increase win belief statewide
- Develop and implement PR tactics to promote winner awareness through digital, social media and video content featuring winners
- Develop and implement tools to track and monitor high-prize winners to create a consistent pipeline of winner stories
- Maintain a database of winning data in Illinois to support storytelling opportunities
- Maintain and regularly refresh a library of creative assets (imagery, video, animations etc.) to support storytelling opportunities
Relationship management
- Stakeholder management for lottery winners - conducting initial outreach and serving as primary contact to gain participation in winner awareness activities (i.e. storytelling, or media-related opportunities)
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with the managers across all five Illinois Lottery claim centers
- Work cross-functionally to curate and promote winners content across Illinois Lottery owned channels, in particular working closely with the social media and digital teams
- Manage relationships with external vendors (such as photo and video support) in support of the winner awareness strategy.
Media outreach
- You will need a working knowledge of Illinois media markets, and will proactively engage reporters in content and story ideas to secure high-impact broadcast and print media coverage
- Create and oversee creation of quality media stories and story pitches, as well as other earned media communications materials, such as supporting creative (including imagery, videos, data, and animation), to promote Lottery winners.
Media monitoring
- Create and maintain media lists for targeted communications,including regional targets
- Engage with local news contacts in key markets to support winners outreach and PR events
- Assist with creation and distribution of results from PR campaigns with internal and external partners.
Additional
- Ability to regularly travel around Illinois to build and maintain effective working relationships with claim center staff in downtown Chicago, Rockford, Springfield, Fairview Heights, and Des Plaines
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends for key projects and events (e.g. large jackpot rolls or a significant winner in Illinois)
- You may be required to collaborate cross-functionally to support business projects or PR events
- Other administrative/support duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
- Four-plus years of proven experience in a public relations-related role.
- Experience in project management and execution of PR campaigns and/or initiatives
- Experience in copywriting and editing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive or proprietary company information in a confidential manner.
Preferred:
- PR agency experience a plus
- Excellent relationship skills - ability to connect and form a rapport with people from all walks of life
- Proactive, flexible, self-reliant, problem solver, results-oriented.
- Proficient with Google Suite.
