SR. Communications and Media Relations Manager
We are looking for a Manager, Communications and Media Relations to develop and own external communications initiatives for Root. This is a job for someone that loves to bring ideas to the table, and make those ideas come to life through collaboration and execution utilizing the full range of external communication tools.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for establishing, promoting and protecting Root’s reputation, and be given the keys to some of our most compelling communications initiatives from across the organization. You’ll need a deep understanding of the modern earned media environment while having a willingness to try new approaches to corporate and consumer communications. This role will help evolve Root’s approach to PR to create a function that benefits every aspect of the organization and drives measurable results.
A successful candidate will pride themselves on developing new ideas and inspiring the organization to believe in them. You’ll work with an incredible team of creatives, marketers, product designers, data scientists, engineers and leaders as you create and execute impactful, market-leading campaigns.

- Build media and corporate-focused campaigns to support business objectives.
- Evolve Root’s earned media benchmarking and reporting capabilities.
- Proactively identify and plan for external brand-building opportunities and risks that will naturally arise as the company continues to grow and evolve.
- Develop and shape messaging that reinforces the Root brand and culture and protects our brand reputation Build strong, positive relationships throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with extended Brand, Marketing and Design teams to extend Root’s reputation and visibility across all platforms.
- Manage agency relationships and priorities as required to execute a communications strategy.
- Leverage mainstream and evolving communications channels to reach current and potential stakeholders to cut through the noise and reach each priority audience with impactful messaging.
- Create high quality, persuasive, and strategic presentations as needed for executives.
- Conceive and execute meaningful PR campaigns that are innovative, engaging and creative that align to a media and corporate communications strategy that supports both brand awareness and demand generation.
- Keep Root connected to stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving communications landscape.
- Establish strong relationships with relevant journalists and media organizations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to further Root’s public affairs agenda.
What you have:
- 7+ years managing complex communications programs for a fast-paced, consumer-focused organization.
- A proven track record of developing and executing innovative PR and corporate communication strategy.Agency or in-house experience. with strong existing media relationships and an ability to build new ones.
- A self-starting mentality that thrives under pressure and enjoys a challenge.
- A deep understanding and appreciation of business goals; analytical skill and the ability to use data analysis to find actionable insights and support recommendations.
- Clear organizational skills to build and maintain measurement tools to assess campaign success.
- Exceptional writing abilities and oral communication skills with the ability to maintain a clear and consistent brand voice.
- A collaborative nature with finesse in developing relationships cross-functionally.
- An ability to develop and lead a team from scratch.
