What You’ll Do
Under minimum supervision, this individual will be strong in the z/OS operating system and its major components. They will need a good working knowledge of the IBM Mainframe, have worked with various DASD subsystems and is able to adapt to new technologies and facilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.
Act as subject matter expert and maintain (keep hardware, software, applications, chips, bios all updated per vendor direction) and monitor the processors, memory and disk to ensure they meet requirements and are functioning and lead the configuration of hardware infrastructure.
Design and architect IBM z/OS operating systems and their various components and verify their compatibility and maintenance levels for consistent and reliable availability.
Actively represent group at project meetings and planning sessions at an expert level by participating in any discussions, offer alternatives and recommendations to help achieve project goals and report status to project owner and management.
Provide direction in the I/O subsystem architecture to add, delete or modify channel definitions and control units and devices across a partitioned mainframe.
Verify work performed by staff is complete and accurate prior to implementation and offer suggestions for improvement of processes or tasks.
Support production and development applications executing on mainframe, including all aspects of system (operating system, major components and subsystems and third-party products).
Provide expertise in operating system and component software to assist in design and architecture of ongoing and future corporate projects.
Provide support and expertise to various groups that use these systems.
Assist in training with new facilities or improvements to existing technology and provide best practice recommendations.
Remain aware of new technology and apply it when appropriate.
Adhere to change policies and procedures. Maintain departmental documents as required.

Technical Skills:
Expert knowledge of SMP/E, ICF Catalogs, DF/SMS, z/OS Operating System and utilities, SMF, Workload Manager, DB2.
Experience working with vendor ISV products from companies such as Broadcom/CA, BMC, etc.
In-depth knowledge of HCD.
Knowledge of various DASD and tape subsystems a plus.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent work experience.
5-7 years as a Mainframe Systems Administrator/Systems Programmer or similar role.
