The COO is responsible for the business operations of the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and its expansion initiatives. This individual works closely with the senior management of the University and the Polsky Center to efficiently and effectively deliver centralized business services including finance, human resources, and IT for Polsky. This COO is also responsible for the growth and success of the Polsky Center’s physical spaces for innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead finance for Polsky, including budgeting, revenue and expenses for general operations and the management of the University’s inventions.
- Manage human resources, including Polsky’s hiring and career and performance management.
- Supervise IT infrastructure and support for Polsky, including IT assets, user support, and specific software requirements for Polsky
- Collaborate with University Shared Services to support finance, HR and IT goals
- Develop and implement facilities plans to align with Polsky’s overall goals
- Lead the vision, development and implementation of the Polsky expansion in partnership with the University’s real estate, Office of Civic Engagement, Office of Legal Counsel, and Finance organizations, as well as outside organizations
- Lead and support select entrepreneurship programs at the Polsky Center
- Other duties as assigned
Competencies:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be proactive and to follow through with attention to detail.
- Deep knowledge of what drives success for startups and startup investors, and the ability to coach startups on their path to market.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines for deliverables.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Proficiency with computers, especially Excel.
Education, Experience or Certifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- MBA strongly preferred.
Experience:
Required:
- 10 years of work experience with increasing responsibility.
- Experience and track record in building partnerships across disciplines, functions and especially among academic, industrial, government and non-profit partners.
- Demonstrated track record of developing startups and programs to support commercialization.
- Experience in financial stewardship of an organization.
