Director of Professional Services

Ocient is seeking a Director of Professional Services who will lead a professional services team.  Ocient Professional services are generally in the scope of the following areas:

  1. Stream processing consulting – Setting up systems like Kafka and Flink to do stream processing buffering and transformation. Understanding stream processing at 10Gbps and be able to setup stream processing at this speed is essential. This team should be able to setup and design stream transformation systems at scale. They should be able to help customers with their stream loading needs and be able to transition solutions to customers to be operated by customers. Systems in this space may be cloud solutions or possible customer deployed on-prem solutions. The key is the ability to design and implement robust stream loading solutions with compete error handing, high system reliability and high system availability.  
  2. File ETL consulting – Take files in the form they are received and then generating new files to be loaded into the Ocient system. This includes all data prep working including data deduplication, data cleansing, data filtering, data sorting and data ordering. This should be able to be done on PB levels of files. Particular care should be taken to ensure that data is not mutated improperly during the ETL process.     The ETL tools need to be able to be documented and delivered to the customer.   
  3. Data Management and Movement – This area is about how to move and manage very large files and streams. This team should coordinate all data movement and data storage. They should work with the director of datacenter operations to ensure that enough resources as available to manage and move files effectively. Minimizing the costs to move data at scale is extremely important. 
  4. Data Analytics Consulting – The data analytics consulting team should be experts in schema design, understanding data, machine learning and understanding how to write SQL to solve business problems. This team will be responsible for architecting all schema and designing the SQL to solve business problems. They will be the primary specification writers for the transforms needed on the data during the file ETL and stream loading transformation.  


The director of professional services will lead all aspects of this team and completing projects successfully within budget and on time.  They will be responsible for hiring the team and making sure that the team is running efficiently to be able to have the capacity to perform the roles above.   

The director of professional services will be responsible for the profitability of all projects and quoting all projects successfully to ensure profitability of the team. The director will also be responsible for all cost structures and any outside consulting needed to finish projects. The director will be responsible for all timelines associated with projects and delivering them on time.
