Director, Quality Assurance

At Otus, a fast-growing EdTech company based at 1K Fulton in the West Loop of Chicago, you will work with people passionate about improving the lives of teachers and students. We are a group of talented designers, developers, coaches, and leaders. We love what we do and strive to the best work we can each day.

On our team, you will find musicians, beer enthusiasts, designer toy collectors, table tennis fanatics, and more.

Your Role

  • Ensure high levels of quality of software delivered across all of our teams

  • Lead the teams in developing and executing test plans and test cases across our product lines and technology stacks

  • Define an automation strategy that’s attainable and aligned to business and technology goals

  • Build enough product and technical knowledge that you can meaningfully lead the QA team when they are tasked with investigation and reproduction of production and development issues

  • Set up data collection and reporting, and conduct analysis to drive continuous improvement across the product lines

  • In conjunction with product development leadership, define and measure the performance of teams against quality metrics (eg number of escaped defects, defect distribution, defect severity)

Qualifications

  • We value humility, a strong work ethic, flexibility, collaboration, technical curiosity, and constant learning

  • You have built QA organizations and practices from the ground up

  • You have also walked into existing QA organizations as a leader and been successful in creating incremental improvements

  • Proven experience in growing and mentoring managers and individual contributors

  • You can move fast and have a bias for action — you can deliver maximum results with minimal direction

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent practical experience

Perks

  • Laptop of your choice and dual monitors

  • Stock options in a growth-stage company

  • Competitive salary

  • Flexible hours so you can be at your most productive

  • Paid time off (20 days per year)

  • Flexible work from Home policy

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Life insurance and disability benefits

  • 401(k) with an employer match (up to 4%)

  • Pre-tax commuter benefits

  • Flexible PTO policy, generous parental leave, and great work/life balance

  • Fun perks like snacks, catered lunches, happy hours, wellness programs, and Otus swag

  • The opportunity to collaborate with fun, innovative, and passionate people in a casual, yet highly productive atmosphere.

  • Really smart colleagues who work hard and play well

  • Working in arguably the best neighborhood in the city with the best food, drinks, coffee and donuts all within walking distance

  • Working in an amazing office building with gym, rooftop deck, frequent social events, shuttle to and from train stations
