Hello, We’re Built In

Built In is on a mission to unite technology professionals with their purpose. We do that through the power of content. Today, over one million registered users and 4.5 million technology professionals use our platform every year to learn about innovative companies, new technologies and further their careers.

The caliber of audience we’ve cultivated means that over 1,800 companies — from the hottest tech startups to Fortune 500 companies undergoing digital transformation — trust us to share their employer brand story and fill the technology roles that drive their strategy.

Because we can help employers find hard to recruit talent, our B2B side is thriving. In addition our users are finding great jobs and advancing their careers and knowledge of the tech world with Built In. That means we are rapidly growing our product and technology footprint as we are committed to building the leading SaaS product for employer branding and talent activation.

With venture funding of $30M to date with a $22M Series C raise in 2019, we are poised to disrupt recruiting for hard-to-fill roles and help technologists find their dream jobs — in their city, around the country or completely remote. If you are looking for an award-winning culture, have a desire to help people find their calling and want to be part of building best-in-class technology, Built In might fulfill your purpose.

We’re Looking for an Editorial Operations Strategist

Built In’s editorial team reaches millions of tech professionals by reporting on the news in the markets and communities we serve, working with outside experts to share their stories and experiences, and producing original features and professional development content across a wide variety of both tech and business topics. As the team — and its reach — has grown, so too has its complexity. Now, we’re looking for an operations strategist to help continue refining and iterating upon our production management and data infrastructure in Airtable; help maintain and refine our SEO, newsletter, homepage, social media, and other distribution strategies across teams and departments; and survey the landscape to spot new opportunities for increased efficiency and data-led growth.

You’ll report to the director of editorial operations and work closely with all five editorial teams and the SEO team to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of our production and distribution systems with the goal of expanding our reach. Along the way, you’ll customize our production systems to the team’s shifting needs and projects (i.e. maintaining and experimenting with new tables, views, automations, formulas, syncs, integrations, interfaces, etc.); continue to improve how we use data and dashboards to inform editorial strategy on an ongoing basis; ensure that teams and departments are collaborating effectively; and be thinking about how we can plan for and track future growth. Along with this production and project management, you’ll also own and be responsible for growing and improving our editorial newsletter (which now reaches more than 1.1 million users); regularly update and maintain strategy for our homepage and our articles landing page; help maintain and eventually automate our social feeds; exhaustively write and maintain documentation of best practices (and ensure compliance with regular reminders and tooling); and support our director of editorial operations in rolling out new editorial practices, tactics, initiatives, and strategies. And you’ll generate and implement creative solutions to operational challenges as they present themselves.

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with a growth mindset; an Airtable nerd (who’s not afraid of formulas or scripts); an extremely detail-oriented self-starter; organized (like very, very, organized); and motivated by working with and supporting an editorial team committed to delivering a consistent, high-quality product that instructs, informs, and inspires tens of thousands of people every day.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Refine and iterate upon our Airtable production management system, including customizing tables, views, formulas, automations, syncs, integrations, etc., and training editorial staff to do the same.
  • Ensure compliance with all production, SEO, and distribution best practices, through the use of documentation, memos, and automated tooling.
  • Own, produce, grow, maintain strategy on, (and occasionally help automate) all distribution channels: newsletter, homepage and articles page, social media.
  • Regularly meet with team leads and leaders from other departments to ensure there’s an efficient passage of data, work product, and other information to ensure success.
  • Survey the landscape to spot new opportunities for increased efficiency and data-led growth across all editorial teams.

What You Need

  • Four years as a project manager, managing editor, or editorial strategist in a digital environment.
  • Two years of Airtable experience, preferably including writing formulas, designing automations, and using Airtable scripts.
  • Love of data, moving it, cleaning it, analyzing it, planning for it.
  • Comfort in CMS, newsletter, social media, and dashboard (GA, Tableau) environments.
  • Patience and speed.

Impress Us Even More

  • Experience building an Airtable system for a team or across multiple teams.
  • SEO knowledge.
  • Record of collaborating across teams and departments — balancing competing concerns and needs — to design strategies and produce growth.
  • A record of enhancing and growing subscribers to a newsletter product.
  • A record of using automated tooling to increase efficiency and spur growth.

What We Value

We’re revolutionizing tech recruitment. So we question everything, because the best answers sit just to the right of a question mark. That’s our heritage as a disruptive company — as a company whose future depends on our capacity to innovate with a sense of drive, purpose and urgency. If you join Built In, you will work from this set of values:

  • Be Inclusive, Always. We’re committed to a culture where all people are respected, have a say and can be their whole selves. We will uplift and advocate for one another. Always.
  • Be Unreasonably Passionate. Our passion is borderline obsessive, and we’re ok with that. No one ever built anything great on a “meh.” We work with outsized passion to fulfill our mission.
  • Be Humble. You don’t have all the answers. Luckily, you don’t have to. Don’t worry about being right. Be humble instead.
  • Stay Curious. Curiosity is a springboard to the future. It can transform the wisp of an idea into a breakthrough. We ask “what if.” We work with wonder. It’s how we innovate.
  • Lead with Solutions. Question everything. But offer solutions as you do. Raise issues. But propose a few answers. For every hole you poke, offer a way to patch it up.
  • Own the Result. We have no time for blame or shame. When you stumble, own it, learn from it + get back to business.
  • Do More. Do more than your job description. Take initiative. Take charge. No job is beneath you, and no job is too big. Be a leader and do more — do whatever it takes.

Be Inclusive, Always

Research shows that women and other marginalized groups tend to apply to roles only when they check every point on a job description. We encourage you to apply if you meet the majority of qualifications and this role is aligned with your career trajectory.
