Job Description

Vulnerability management plays a key role in limiting the opportunities attackers have to exploit our environment. This is where you come in! In this role, you will have the ability to make a direct impact and create positive change through the use of vulnerability management technology. MSI follows a process of identifying, classifying, prioritizing, remediating, and mitigating software vulnerabilities while at the same time identifying areas that can be automated. Ultimately, the Vulnerability Management and Automation Support Specialist, will contribute to a world class program to help keep MSI’s data secure so MSI can facilitate critical communications and help customers around the world be their best in the moments that matter.

Skills and attributes for success:
Highly creative, motivated self-starter who can provide leadership in automation development and deployment.
Understanding of the vulnerability identification, analysis, and scoring standard Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS), as well as (CVE).
Strong written and verbal communications, attention to detail, interpersonal and networking skills
Strong sense of ownership and driven to manage tasks to completion.
Coding/scripting capabilities in multiple languages.
Ability to identify systemic security issues based on the analysis of vulnerability and configuration data
Ability to operate with minimal oversight in a fast-paced and, at times, nuanced environment.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment requiring analytical and problem-solving skills.
Roles and responsibilities:
Provide insights and recommendations pulled from analysis to leadership and team members.
Work closely with the Threat Response, Insider Threat, and Threat Intelligence teams to implement custom automation and support for various platforms.
Work with other departments to fulfill other technical needs.
Monitor, escalate and respond to security events.
Offer recommendations, based on various metrics, on how to improve the Vulnerability Management processes.
Provide technical expertise across the vulnerability management lifecycle including asset management, scanning, analysis and reporting.
Advise support teams on patching and remediation efforts and provide regular updates to management.
Collaborate and contribute to the automation of scanning and reporting processes, where possible.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
Database knowledge (SQL and/or document databases)
Knowledge of scripting/programming language structures and logic.
An understanding of how and why vulnerabilities exist and are exploited.
Ability to interpret vulnerability scan results and build creative remediation strategies to remediate vulnerabilities.
A strong desire to learn new technologies and contribute to a fast-paced operational security team
Desire to learn data analytics and other areas of Information Security.
Desire to learn machine learning, artificial intelligence and natural language processing techniques
Familiar with cyber security frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001
Familiar with capabilities of enterprise Vulnerability Management systems such as Rapid7 or Qualys
Direct experience in Information Security
Knowledge of threat vectors and attack methodologies and how that impacts vulnerability management
