Job Description
The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for leading the quality assurance process and maintaining a quality system for ensuring that all print/mail products meet consistent quality and delivery standards and customer expectations. This includes implementing quality control checks, inspecting products at various stages and documenting and reporting on all non-conformances and production/delivery issues.
The QA Manager is responsible for training and developing a staff to recognize defects and imperfections at all stages of the manufacturing and packaging process to uphold consistent quality/delivery standards. They observe production processes to identify the causes of common types of mistakes or defects. They research ways to limit human error within the production process, identify and quantify waste & downtime and utilize root cause analysis tools & methods for driving continuous improvement.
Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements, and manages QC processes to ensure that print/mail products meet required specifications for quality and mailability
  • Works proactively with data center & creative teams to ensure continuous improvement, root cause analysis and optimal production solutions for new and existing products & clients
  • Manage postal requirements and ensure compliance to USPS regulations using Mailer Scorecard
  • Attend QC checks at vendor facilities
  • Hire and train quality assurance staff
  • Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the QC Team
  • Monitor and audit USPS Mailer Scorecard
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function
  • Able to manage career paths by coaching and mentoring direct reports
  • Holds associates accountable for their work by setting expectations, achieving commitments, providing feedback, and evaluating effectiveness
  • Provide technical leadership in the organization
  • Provides direction to individual contributors


Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the print production process and agency workflow
  • Knowledge of postal regulations a must, knowledge of Mailer Scorecard, and seamless acceptance rules needed
  • Strong attention to detail and operational workflow dynamics to effectively track and analyze QC reports and implement process changes
  • Able to multi-task and utilize resources to execute tasks within a deadline-oriented environment
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Commitment to continuous process improvement initiatives and able to solve problems creatively
  • Highly motivated and high level of initiative; inspires confidence to work independently and in support of department goals and business objectives
  • Able to build relationships and work across a multi-product line organization
  • Strong analytics and computer skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
  • Able to communicate effectively, upwards and downwards within the organizational structure

  • Familiarity with quality standards and processes
  • Communication skills to convey information in reports, meetings, and status reports
  • Knowledge of the product to perform accurate quality control

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all quality assurance components and resources to ensure all work is completed flawlessly and on time
  • Manage a team of Quality Assurance staff
  • Perform work quality assessments and feedback, to ensure highest quality standards
  • Find solutions for any quality issues on projects that may come up
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure all work functions are performed as per requirements
  • Maintain deadlines and quality as per service-level-agreements and standards
  • Support development of new products and formats
  • Maintain and organize resources such as USPS quality tools, grids, and training to assure quality standards are met
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and coordination with leadership & cross functional teams
  • Assists and supports cross functional teams, as needed
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required
  • Implement methods to inspect, test and evaluate print products and production equipment
  • Ensure that print & mail products adhere to quality standards
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
  • Work according to deadlines for the delivery of products
  • Train production line staff in production practices and quality assessment
  • Track products through the manufacturing process to guarantee that each part of the process is correct
  • Perform detailed inspections of final products so the products are up to industry and company standards
  • Eliminate products that are not up to standards and finding the reasons for product problems


Technical Requirements:

  • Digital Print experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite a plus


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of print work (production) and quality experience
  • Excellent understanding of QA processes, print processes, color management, proofing and press checking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years' experience in a related field
  • Previous leadership/management experience required


Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
