Leads and provides guidance to the Sourcing Support team, which is responsible for being the catalyst to leverage size and scale of ADUSA across the Direct Sourcing COE. Understands the Brand strategies and strategic initiatives to ensure teams deliver against them.

The role will be expected to:

  • Lead the Vendor Governance team, the Contracts and Trademarks team that provides contract and trademark services to the Sourcing and Private Brands teams, and the Economic Insights and Strategy team that provides commodity insights and manages the Should Cost process.
  • Provide overall support of direct sourcing functions across the Sourcing COE, inclusive of projects that come up that cross the team.
  • Build and lead vendor management practice for the new vendor governance model to ensure ADUSA receives the best services, resources, knowledge, benefits, value, and costs from the model to drive and enable business and market share growth. Establish vendor management governance and own working relationship, including performance SLAs and KPIs for vendor scorecards. Drive ongoing evaluation and process improvement across these metrics, working with key stakeholders to address issues as they arise. Drive continuous process improvement across RBS, PDL, and the Brands. Oversee all aspects of vendor governance including ensuring scorecard development, reporting, and socialization, etc. Serve as key point of contact across internal Ahold-Delhaize business partners to achieve major business goals of the business unit.
  • Oversee and guides development of corporate commodities’ position strategy.
  • Have a strong track record of success and the ability to lead, build consensus, and drive discussions at the Director/Vice President level and above
  • Partner with Direct Sourcing teams, Category Directors / Vice Presidents and SVPs across all great local Brands in a multi-state operation, consisting of 5 brick and mortar chains with over 2,000+ stores, plus e-commerce operations.

Recipe for Success - What's “in store” for the role  

  • Oversee and provide strategic leadership, direction, and management of the vendor governance team. Promotes an effective project / functional environment. Plans and assigns broad objectives across multiple projects / functions and ensures implementation through other leaders. Actively leads through vision, providing leadership for project / function through direct application of expertise, through consultation with others and/or through leadership team.
  • Accountable for the design and establishment of a vendor scorecard that compiles a set of metrics and KPIs for key processes. Assessment of the issues (problem solving) involve analysis of numerous factors, both internal and external to the project / function to solve extremely complex problems. Often involves consideration of untested and evolving technologies, processes, and methodologies. Applies high level of expertise and core competencies gathered across large segments of the business unit or function to solve problems.
  • Understanding of industry trends to include commodity insights, sourcing processes, contract language and able to negotiate business terms
  • Continuous Improvement: understanding and implementing best practices within functional area
  • Primary interfaces will be CM+1s/CM+2s (Category Directors, VPs, SVPs)
  • Lead overall strategic direction to identify overall AD opportunities within Vendor Governance and Commodity & Economic insights.
  • Participates in leadership meetings, offering guidance and expertise as needed for strategy discussions.
  • Facilitates Ways of Working across the Brands to ensure we are meeting brand strategies and balancing how we fully leverage size and scale of ADUSA.
  • Provides updates and actively advises/influences Sourcing Lead, Sourcing Peers, Merchandising Teams (Brands). Initiates and guides process for escalation.
  • Accountable for identifying and supporting execution of opportunities to drive optimizing scale.
  • Delivers innovative solutions that enhance the Brand experience and continue to find new ways to add value
  • Develops team through coaching, training, and development programs.

 

The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of retail and sourcing experience
  • 8+ years leading high performing teams
  • Proven experience managing multiple functional teams, and working with cross-functional teams; displays transparency and integrity in actions with others
  • Strong experience and understanding of sourcing events, RFP, negotiations, awarding decisions, and contracting process
  • Excellent analytical, mathematics, and problem-solving skills with an orientation to details, both at strategic and tactical levels
  • Good communication skills, executive presence, adept negotiator, strong relationship builder with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to develop a long-range vision and develop/deliver plans to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment.

 

Extra Spices - What you should bring to the table

  • The person in this role needs to have significant experience in sourcing leadership; preferably experience within grocery or retail, and must be viewed as an authority with deep industry knowledge on Sourcing & Vendor Governance
  • Negotiation strategy & business acumen with ability to leverage size and scale effectively.
  • Consumer Packaged Goods knowledge, Category Management Knowledge, P&L Management, Logistics Knowledge
  • Team leadership, development, and delivery
  • Understanding of commodity markets
  • Ability to understand legal language.
  • Achieve optimization in sourcing & contracting; Analytically minded with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly strong in influencing and presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation skills, financial planning / budgeting, and ability to communicate executive-level insight internally and externally while navigating nuances of financial and procurement in negotiation.
