About the Team:

The Product function, in which this role sits, is responsible for the cross-functional development and commercialization of all Illinois Lottery products - from Pick 3/Pick 4 to Instant tickets (scratch-offs) to newer products like FastPlay. The Product team works closely with the marketing, technology, retail, and digital teams to bring fun and exciting games to our players across the State.

Position Overview:

Reporting to a Product Manager, the Product Specialist will be an integral part of the Product team. The role is well-rounded and specifically designed to focus on product fundamentals including game mechanics, project management, budget management, and strategic planning, as well as applying overall business acumen to the product development process. This role will have high visibility in the organization and will have the opportunity to grow with the business..

Responsibilities:

  • Product:
    • Be an expert in all lottery games, including Pick 3, Pick 4 and Instant tickets - understanding game matrices, prize structures, payouts, role in the portfolio, and player preferences
    • Work with cross functional teams to exchange information and manage against tight timelines for high-visibility projects
    • Aid in product development to define and quantify opportunities for innovation and product evolution, including the development of concepts and propositions
    • Support player-centric propositions and go-to-market plans for our product portfolio
  • Project Management:
    • Liaise with key cross-functional stakeholders (marketing, legal, retail, insights, etc.) to manage and deliver on all details of key projects
    • Work closely with vendors to deliver against key timelines for game development, digital support and licensing approvals
    • Assist Product team in managing procurement process with new and existing vendors
  • Analysis:
    • Monitor product performance in order to identify issues and trends, and work with the Product team to develop tactical plans and contingencies where required
    • Develop hypotheses and conclusions from multiple data sources to create robust plans, and the assumptions that underpin them
    • Identify information gaps and work with the Insights team to find solutions

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field of study
  • 2-3 years brand or product marketing, finance, consumer insights, or project management experience
  • Efficiently and effectively work in cross-functional teams in order to exchange information and manage multiple tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects/timelines across multiple products
  • Ability to influence across the organization
  • Proven experience working with, analyzing, and reporting data in order to evaluate product performance and drive portfolio improvement
  • Comfort working in ambiguity
  • Self-starter with strong business acumen
  • Excellent written and numerical attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the commercial aspects of marketing/product management
  • Previous experience in the CPG, Lottery and/or Gaming industry
  • Previous budget management experience
  • Experience using and analyzing a large data pool (Nielsen, IRI, etc.)
  • Experience working within the Microsoft Suites and/or Google Suite technologies
