Product Manager, Advisor Workstation
Group: The Product group is the home of manufacturing and innovation at Morningstar. The individuals in this group transform our high-quality data, independent research, and technological expertise into well-designed software products that delight our clients. The group's product management, product development, and service teams collaborate with our Sales, Client Solutions group to help provide clients with relevant products and bundled solutions.
Role: Morningstar's Advisor Client Experience (ACE) group is looking for a talented Product Manager to drive the execution of exciting new initiatives on our $80 million product - Advisor Workstation. The Advisor Client Experience team is responsible for developing and delivering a range of configured advisor solutions to the Enterprise Wealth Management segment, that often includes Broker Dealers, RIAs and Asset Managers. We are looking for an assertive, detail-oriented, self-starter who can work effectively in a highly collaborative team setting.
As a Product Manager, you will work closely with other Product Managers, Designers and Technologists in the US and our overseas offices and will play a key role in developing, prioritizing and executing on the Advisor Workstation roadmap. You will be responsible for help maintaining the current version of Advisor Workstation. You will help to innovate and build a new modern experience for our advisor clients and thus help deliver user satisfaction and business success. You will collaborate with other product managers to build software our users love, build roadmaps, and track towards the established goals. It will be important to act as both a subject matter expert and strategist within the team, and to help deliver solutions that solve market problems.
In this role, you will be required to have attention to detail in order to carefully evaluate our current solutions by collaborating with both tech and design teams and determine a path forward that is as seamless as possible to our end users.
The Product Manager owns the software development roadmap, working across job function and geography to build software users love. Product Managers design, develop, and manage activities from conceptualization, definition, and planning through implementation, release, enhancement and eventual sun setting - the product lifecycle. Product Managers act as product experts to translate market trends, customer needs, and Morningstar intellectual property into innovative deliverables that solve customer problems and evangelize those innovations internally and externally.
Job Responsibilities
- Own the product development strategy, roadmap, prioritization, and product development lifecycle for key modules within Advisor Workstation
- Become a SME for the Advisor Workstation product and lead implementation of business requirements and configuration changes
- Oversee the development and roll-out of new product enhancements and features, and work with marketing, sales, and client service to execute a strategy for ongoing support
- Work with software product, design and technology leaders from across the organization, as partners, to execute on the product vision that supports their goals.
- Work with external clients and users and adopt an outside-in approach to continually refine and validate the product strategy and roadmap.
- Transition and support operations queue to internal operations analyst team.
- Continually refine processes to realize new operational efficiencies that allow Workstation to better support our client base.
- Develop business requirements refined and validated with customers, prioritize conflicting work, and work within an Agile software development framework.
- Collaborate with internal product managers and technologists to leverage re-usable components in order to maintain consistency across professional software products.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required, and an advanced degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience required, with demonstrated experience as a business analyst, product owner, or engineer. Knowledge and experience with Agile software development, and strong technical acumen are also required.
- Experience working with external third-party applications and vendors.
- Willingness to juggle multiple different responsibilities and stakeholders to get things done (work with internal stakeholders and tech members on design & implementation, with clients on gathering their needs, and doing what it takes "roll up sleeve" to get innovative solutions to market)
- Interest in and focus on building innovative software that users love.
- Excellent business judgment; analytical, planning, and decision-making skills; in addition to exemplary communication and presentation abilities overall.
