Responsibilities

The Product Owner will work in close collaboration with internal teams, and will report to the Advanced Analytics Lead. This role will support the development of predictive and prescriptive software products, including gathering and prioritizing product requirements, developing and automating product features, and managing the overall product roadmap.

 

Main Interfaces/Relationships:

  • Internal - IT, Consulting, Marketing, Sales, Strategy
  • External - Potential Customers (e.g. voice of the customer, customer demos)

Desired Skills & Experience

Detailed Responsibities:

  • Obtain external perspective on the competitive landscape related to the product and update product roadmap accordingly
  • Identify product-related use cases & customer pain points
  • Translate business requirements to technical requirements and functional designs
  • Define & prioritize user stories (work, definition of done, dependencies, etc.)
  • Own the data integration and management strategy with IT
  • Collaborate with the R&D lead to ensure that methods are implementable (scalable and automated) and aligned with the product
  • Prioritize product roadmap features based on client need and profit opportunity and seeking input from consulting group and other stakeholders
  • Create and manage process and product documentation
  • Oversee/manage version control for the product (e.g. Bitbucket)
  • Constantly evaluate the cost vs. benefit of product enhancements, developments, and revisions

 Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of the product development process
  • Understanding of the Agile methodology for SaaS development
  • Ability to work closely with R&D lead to ensure that experimental (prototyped) methods are implementable (scalable and automated) & aligned with the product
  • Understanding of coding best practices, including production code
  • Understanding of machine learning and predictive analytics applications, particularly within software development
  • Familiarity with the lean start-up philosophy
  • Ability to manage highly technical and analytical people
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Product Development, Software Development, or a related field
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders

Knowledge & Years of Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience managing a product roadmap
  • 2+ experience building software products within a cloud infrastructure, ideally those that incorporate machine learning components
  • 2+ years of experience managing the product development process using the Agile methodology
    • Prioritizing features on the product roadmap
    • Writing and prioritizing user stories
    • Translating business requirements to technical, functional and non-functional requirements
    • Managing user stories (making sure that all user stories go through a QA process)
    • Co-lead product meetings (e.g. Scrum meetings, sprint planning, demos, retros)
  • 2+ years of experience managing people

Skills:

  • UI/UX development
  • Communicating technical information to the business
  • Strong leadership potential for building group spirit and culture
  • Ability & willingness to mentor and coach junior employees

Other Abilities:

  • Ability to understand the unique needs of analytic customers
  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment and deal with ambiguity

 

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Development and implementation of features (into production) on schedule, or as negotiated with stakeholders, and within allocated budget
  • Product roadmap management based on internal and external customer feedback (e.g. feature revision history documented with revision justifications noted)
  • Easy access to product and process documentation that is current and complete in one central location
  • User stories in Jira are complete with traceability
  • Backlog user story prioritization based on defendable analysis and input from the team
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with multiple stakeholders as indicated by obtained feedback
  • Effective management of team members, if applicable, as measured by performance of direct reports through formal and informal evaluations
