Job Description

The IT Portfolio Lead will be responsible for helping shape the activities we do, by engaging in business case discussions, assessing priority of the overall demand, and identifying PM resources to move projects forward.


Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Establish and implement programs and project management best practices across the portfolio

  • Develop, maintain, and govern project and program management, methodology, templates, and standards for use

  • Drive establishment and compliance of project management guidelines and practices to ensure effective, efficient, high quality delivery that consistently meets or exceeds the expectations of the business

  • Partner with key business leaders and IT Leadership to identify and prioritize programs/projects to build the IT Program Portfolio to support business strategy

  • Support the overall management and successful delivery of business initiative(s) identified in the IT Program Portfolio

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to a team of Project Managers and Scrum Masters

  • Serve as escalation point for project managers regarding program/project management methodology, issues and risks, agenda planning, business stakeholder communication follow-up for multi-stakeholder governance committees

  • Work closely with IT leadership and key departments on vendor selection and contracting processes in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Manage stakeholder communication processes and partner with functional leaders to report on projects and programs with nominated Project Managers

  • Take on small projects when time permits, especially those in business case phase


Desired Background/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Extremely proficient at executive communication. Ability to establish context and hit the right tone while communicating with senior level executives. 

  • Team communication and collaboration skills are critical for ensuring the success of the projects. Ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization based on trust, transparency, and by delivering on commitments.

  • Experience in team management, including hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and mediation skills

  • Ability to drive meetings independently with strong ability to build cross-functional relationships to coordinate dependencies and existing complex processes to deliver on commitments

  • Excellent listening skills with dynamic ability to resolve complex issues in an environment of rapid change positively and professionally; ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts

  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to balance and effectively prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

  • Self-directed; able to identify and set priorities with minimal guidance,and then modify these as the situation changes.

  • A strong value system with impeccable integrity, enthusiasm and passion for learning

  • Experience working with IT departments and Agile/Waterfall methodologies preferred

  • Previous experience in IT project-related leadership roles within medium- to large-sized organizations


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10+ years program/portfolio management experience in delivering large projects

  • 3+ years of management experience
