The Taxonomist—Food and Nutrition is a member of a team of taxonomists that design, build and maintain the Syndigo master taxonomy of product content, and taxonomies maintained in the Syndigo system. This role will include coordinating the development of product content taxonomies and product attributes related to food and nutrition, including designing information collection systems that align with FDA or other regulating frameworks.

This work requires close collaboration with the rest of the taxonomy team, other data management teams, product development, and customer support.

This position reports to the director of Taxonomy and Content Strategy.  The preference would be that this role be based in Syndigo’s office in Nashville, but candidates in Chicago, Lisle IL, and Waukesha WI will also be considered. 

Specific Duties:

  • Serve as subject matter expert for food and nutrition regulation and data structure for taxonomy team.
  • Stay current with food and nutrition regulation and advise team on its impact on our data structures.
  • Analyze and make recommendations for data schema improvements.
  • Participate in QA/approval for data changes and product development related to this area.
  • Participate in taxonomy management, including updating categories, attributes, and successfully managing complex, detailed work with high levels of accuracy.
  • Provide professional, accurate and timely communication within the taxonomy team, with other Syndigo teams, and with customers as directed.
  • Handle taxonomy-related customer support as needed, including answering customer questions with professionally written emails, and serving as subject matter expert on phone calls and in meetings with customers and Syndigo team members at a variety of levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a nutrition-focused or information-centric program of study (e.g. nutrition, statistics, computer science or library/information science), with background in the other discipline as well. Must have significant nutrition education, experience, or both. Master’s degree not required but is ideal.
  • 2+ years’ experience with nutrition data/regulations, product development, or information management.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills a must. Familiarity with data and analytics programs a bonus.
  • Customer- and business-centric focus in work.
  • Ability to think strategically and logically in the face of complex problems and urgent challenges.
  • High level of intellectual curiosity.
  • Available for occasional travel to various areas for client or internal meetings.
