Kenna Security is looking for a Technical Program Manager to work within Kenna PMO supporting the SRE and Systems teams. In this role, you will be responsible for driving tactical and strategic projects and programs that enable our organization to operate more efficiently and effectively.

SRE partners closely with product and development teams to ensure our systems, products and features are built with a high degree of craft excellence and resilience and are monitored and measured with advanced metrics and systems to keep our users productive and able to achieve their goals. Our innovative solutions and ability to scale are vitally important as Kenna continues to grow. SRE TPM will lead the way in managing and directing our most critical and demanding initiatives, projects, and programs for SRE and Systems.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated solid leadership in leading and managing project teams and programs to deliver successful outcomes. This candidate is expected to lead programs and projects of varying levels and partner with key business and technical leaders to define, prioritize and drive projects to successful and impactful delivery. The candidate will have an excellent balance of people, organizational, and technical skills, and can execute and deliver successfully in situations where authority is not a given. Influence, collaboration, and leadership across functional lines are essential.

The TPM role is highly diversified and includes initiating, planning and executing intermediate to large scale, cross-functional and company-wide programs.

**Preferred location is Chicago but open to remote employees**

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.
  • Using your technical and leadership expertise, you run Engineering-focused projects that are well-defined under supervision.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to manage, track and control project challenges and ensure timely delivery of products for the systems, SRE groups
  • Exercise technical judgment to keep goals for programs, projects and products attainable within a given timeline.
  • Lead and develop plans for key initiatives, projects, and programs (includes partnering with product and development teams on their key goals and objectives)
  • Work closely with development partners to coordinate and deploy features to production
  • Track and report on product availability and other metrics, derive key insights, and drive initiatives to conclusion based on those insights
  • Provide leadership and guidance for SRE teams with agile practices, including backlog grooming, standups, and retrospectives
  • Manage and maintain project backlogs and ensure forward momentum with project execution
  • Partner with senior leadership on project execution and team efficiency
  • Partner cross functionally across the company, including R&D, Information Security, and other SRE teams.
  • Help SRE teams go from fighting fires to avoiding them
  • Help teams be more efficient, see the big picture and ensure processes scale appropriately with the company
  • Create a collaborative work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, mastery, innovation, and learning
  • Lead efforts to resolve project conflicts and establish appropriate resolution paths
  • Manage dependencies between multiple projects
  • Mentor individuals in best practices for planning and execution
  • Develop strong partnerships with technology and business leaders
  • Assess and mitigate risk exposure
  • Manage resource planning

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. or B.A. in an engineering or technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing projects/programs within an infrastructure implementation and operations environment or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience managing projects using Agile Methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience with project management and operational tools such as JIRA
  • Understanding of infrastructure technologies in systems, network and data center domains is a plus
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Strong cross-functional and cross-organizational communication skills
  • Excellent balance of people, organizational, technical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent major projects
  • Experience developing roadmaps and resource plans with senior management teams
  • Strong bias for action and an intrinsic ability to deal with ambiguity

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with some or all of our software stack: Ruby, Rails, MySQL, Elasticsearch, Redis and Postgres
  • Experience with some or all of our current or future systems stack: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Fedora/RHEL, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Vagrant
  • Experience with scalability, deployment, monitoring, alerting, and other aspects of running large-scale distributed systems in a public-facing production environment
