The Vice President North America, Sales and Sales Operations owns all sales channels for Groupon’s local business, including new accounts, inbound sales and account management. You will lead Merchant Marketing & support, Sales Training and Sales Operations functions for the region.

 

Reporting directly to Groupon’s President of North America, you are the voice of our merchants, responsible for enhancing the service experience for local businesses, developing product recommendations and growing Groupon’s value proposition. Specifically, you will be spearheading a team of over 500 people and $2BN in annual revenue across our Chicago, Phoenix and Montreal sales sites.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Sales Leadership: Lead 2 Regional Vice Presidents responsible for running our North America salesforce including 7 Regional Sales Directors and 30+ Front Line Managers
  • Industry flexibility: Maximize process productivity across different industry verticals (Things to Do, Health Beauty & Wellness, Food and Drink, and Shopping and Services), while coaching sales teams to become experts in providing solutions for their clients
  • Streamlined sales operations: Run Operations & Strategy Directors responsible for improving resources, lead management, and infrastructure to increase results within Groupon’s sales team
  • Developer of people: Work through Director of Training to develop, train, and mentor our sales force to become stronger salespeople
  • Merchant centric innovation: Unilaterally craft ideas and strategies to increase merchants’ satisfaction, productivity and profitability
  • Data-driven decision-maker: Set clear objectives and measures, monitors progress, results and adjust as necessary to meet financial goals
  • Balance short and long-term strategies: Inspire, change and support the culture to achieve immediate progress while simultaneously developing quarterly and long-term strategies (3-5 year vision) to grow sales results
  • Cross-functional alignment: This leader will align and collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, Product, Operations, etc to successfully execute
  • Executive presence, collaboration and exposure: Work alongside and present to C-Level leadership to obtain agreement and support
  • Product leadership: This role will provide product with data-driven feedback from merchants to optimize company-wide best practice-sharing, and influence product development decisions

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of sales management experience required, inside sales management experience preferred
  • Breadth of experience is valuable, e.g. product, business strategy, sales, operations, marketing, etc. in terms of having a strong ecommerce foundation
  • P&L experience (preferably within ecommerce company) with revenues $100M+, and have been responsible for strategy, product development, technology management, service and support operations, and sales operations
  • Proven track record of establishing and executing on short and long-term planning
  • A demonstrated ability to make strategic and operating trade-offs in order to deliver the right long-term outcomes - even when faced with short term pain
  • A deep understanding of operational process and change management
  • The dedication, prioritization, ownership and comfort in ambiguous situations required to succeed at start-up speed
  • Proven people manager who recognizes excellent performance and behaviors as well as addresses performance and behavior issues head on and without delay
  • Position is based in Chicago, with some travel required
