We’re looking for a Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting tasks in support of the finance function. This role reports directly to the Corporate Controller and works closely with all members of the accounting, financial planning and analysis, legal, and revenue operations teams. The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor to the monthly close and reporting process and will also bring expertise to automate and improve current processes. This person must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and an excellent communicator. This role is perfect for you if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to make your mark on a growing tech company.

What you'll do

  • Support and participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close processes, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis of sub-ledger and general ledger accounts. This includes regularly reviewing, managing and reporting on the accounts receivable and accounts payable aging reports.
  • Manage the full cycle accounts payable process, including the invoice approval and payment process, employee expense reimbursement, vendor records maintenance, vendor and employee inquiries, and annual 1099 tax form issuance.
  • Own the full order-to-cash cycle, including order entry, invoicing, cash receipts application, cash collections, sales taxes and customer records and inquiries.
  • Review and analyze customer contracts and revenue to ensure complete and accurate revenue recognition in the financial statements.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for assets related to costs of obtaining and fulfilling a contract, including commission accruals and expenses.
  • Support treasury activity, including preparing wire transfers, ACH payment files, clearing ACH exceptions, reconciling cash, and reporting and analyzing cash flow.
  • Maintain and improve the use of accounting and commission systems, including the implementation of changes and new functionality.
  • Assist in preparing the monthly financial reporting package, providing insight into business trends and variance analysis to leadership.
  • Support the overall business by analyzing company spend and account balances, and providing accurate and insightful information to support business decisions.
  • Partner with the Corporate Controller in identifying and implementing improvements to automate existing processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with the annual external financial statement audit.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and other assigned tasks.

What you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; 2+ years of public accounting experience desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; experience with revenue recognition under Accounting Standards Codification Topic 606, including contract modifications and costs of obtaining and      fulfilling a contract.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Experience in a SaaS company is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; very detail-oriented and resourceful.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently.
  • Thrives in a demanding, start-up, fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with SPIFF or other commission systems preferred; experience with spend management systems desired.

What We Value

We’re revolutionizing tech recruitment. So we question everything, because the best answers sit just to the right of a question mark. That’s our heritage as a disruptive company — as a company whose future depends on our capacity to innovate with a sense of drive, purpose and urgency. If you join Built In, you will work from this set of values:

  • Be Inclusive, Always. We’re committed to a culture where all people are respected, have a say and can be their whole selves. We will uplift and advocate for one another. Always.
  • Be Unreasonably Passionate. Our passion is borderline obsessive, and we’re ok with that. No one ever built anything great on a “meh.” We work with outsized passion to fulfill our mission.
  • Be Humble. You don’t have all the answers. Luckily, you don’t have to. Don’t worry about being right. Be humble instead.
  • Stay Curious. Curiosity is a springboard to the future. It can transform the wisp of an idea into a breakthrough. We ask “what if.” We work with wonder. It’s how we innovate.
  • Lead with Solutions. Question everything. But offer solutions as you do. Raise issues. But propose a few answers. For every hole you poke, offer a way to patch it up.
  • Own the Result. We have no time for blame or shame. When you stumble, own it, learn from it + get back to business.
  • Do More. Do more than your job description. Take initiative. Take charge. No job is beneath you, and no job is too big. Be a leader and do more — do whatever it takes.

Be Inclusive, Always

Research shows that women and other marginalized groups tend to apply to roles only when they check every point on a job description. We encourage you to apply if you meet the majority of qualifications and this role is aligned with your career trajectory.
