Position Overview
The Senior Product Manager steers a high-performing product line and drives cross-functional operational excellence to execute a winning go-to-market plan.
The Senior Product Manager partners closely with Engineering, Sales, Connected Services, Operations, Customer Experience and Marketing teams to develop and drive their product strategy and execution.
The Senior Product Manager is responsible for product planning and execution, commercialization, and portfolio management through a deep understanding of the automotive market landscape/trends, customer needs, customer friction points, automotive architecture and business models. Being able to identify and articulate key value propositions, create demand, and understand the market TAM/SAM/SOM for their product line is critical to this role. This individual has cradle-to-grave product responsibility -- from concept, to design, sample production, testing, forecast, cost, production, pricing, promotion, support, and finally product end of life.
This individual will be responsible for achieving portfolio operating plan: achievement of growth objectives including market share, revenue, profit and return on investment.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategy: Responsible for the development, communication and implementation of the BU's Automotive strategy for their product line and services. Responsibilities include delivering brand strategy, product portfolio management, integrated marketing planning and pricing strategies.
- Operating Plans: Drives annual and 3 year operating plans for their product line and the Automotive BU, which are aligned to overall CGI business objectives (Revenue, GP, OI, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Innovation). Tracks the portfolio financial performance. Ensures that the broad organization understands priorities and goals, and drives for results.
- P&L Management: Support achievement of full P&L objectives for the BU, driving profitability, volume growth and market share, as well as best in class execution of product and services. Owns achievement of product category ANSP and GM, recommending and implementing pricing objectives, strategies, and guardrails to extract maximum value on new and existing products. Focuses on growing revenue through product line mix & ANSP improvements, improving margin through cost reductions and updating product line with incremental innovation.
- Product Strategy: Defines and communicates the product line vision in support of the BU strategy, including maintaining a clear product roadmap aligned to business goals in the short and long-term. Emphasis should be creating solid business case for each product, aligned with customer technology roadmap and vehicle launches. Product strategy should include both hardware and software focus in order to deliver compelling user experiences.
- Go-To-Market Planning: Develops and implements the strategy for their product line and customer by managing the profitability of the portfolio, demand creation initiatives, brand equity and market share growth. Partners with the business unit's marketing, sales, and customer experience leaders to develop go-to-market strategies to win in targeted customer segments. Creates end-to-end operational plans to drive profitably, grow and scale the business. Must work cross functionally to ensure operations, supply chain, engineering, sales, marketing, customer service, and technical field service are working to support and achieve product line objectives. Ensures that the broad organization understands priorities and goals, and drives for results.
- Team Building: Works collaboratively with peers and managers to build a world class product management organization that thrives on customer insights, embraces customer experience thinking, and role models a data-driven approach. Inspires and motivates cross functional teams through clear communication of strategic intent and aspirational business goals. Models behaviors that are consistent with the Chamberlain mission, vision and values.
- Process Improvement: Ensures the Automotive Marketing team has the necessary processes and procedures in place to manage the quality, cost, and delivery of products. Identify areas for improvement, propose improvements to the Automotive Directors and VP GM and ensure team takes action when corrections are needed.
- Functional Collaboration: Works cooperatively with sales, operation, and engineering leaders in order to align on overall BU strategy and deliver compelling product solutions. Collaborates with Sales team to define business models and pricing strategies.
- Customer Management and Interface: Heavy OEM customer interface and management of product integration with customers. Identify key risk points and drive engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver on time. Understand customer's vehicle technology roadmap and identify potential competitive threats. Ensure customers are cultivated and supported in the long term.
- External Communication: Interfaces/engages with analysts, media/PR outlets, key industry conferences in order to educate customers, partners and end users about our vision, strategy and new product innovations. This role represents the company with customers, competitors, trade associations, government agencies, professional societies and similar groups.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- 5+ years in Engineering, Marketing and/or Product Management
- Ability to work in Matrix and Agile software development environment
- Understand and have experience with Agile Scrum methodologies or other commonly used tools
- Able to travel up to 25% - domestically and internationally
