The Role

The Director of Talent will report directly to the VP of People, with high accountability to the VP of Client Service.  They will be responsible for ensuring that 8th Light has the right talent at the right time for all our client engagements.  This critical role will be a part of the overall People Strategy of our organization. They will have ownership in developing a talent strategy that encompasses full-time permanent hires, internal staffing placements, and 3rd party subcontractor management for all global 8th Light talent.  This role will be responsible for creating data-driven strategies with accompanying dashboards that clearly illustrate the supply and demand of talent across all of 8th Light.  

8th Light is a remote-first company.  This role will be based in the US.  There is a strong preference for the Chicagoland Area (Chicago, IL). 

Who you are

The Director of Talent will oversee the Staffing and Talent Acquisition functions in order to anticipate and quickly deliver the right talent at the right time for client needs.  This will involve close collaboration with sales, marketing and Client Service Account Directors in order to gain a holistic picture of talent demand. You have:

  • 5+ Talent Leadership in Tech Staffing, working with the senior and executive leadership teams in order to design, implement and execute strategic talent strategies for complex and growing SaaS organizations
  • 10+ years experience sourcing, recruiting, staffing, talent branding, and building relationships with diverse technology professionals from senior-level to junior-level
  • Strong data skills with the ability to create data-driven dashboards and extract insights that inform strategic decisions of the business
  • Creative, efficient and effective approach to matching talent supply and demand in a dynamic environment
  • Strong pulse of the talent market, with the ability to accurately anticipate and prepare for shifting talent supply and demand
  • A proven track record of success and passion for attracting diverse talent to technical organizations
  • Collaborate effectively with executives and colleagues to build a strong candidate experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to prioritize effectively and manage projects smoothly.
  • An ability to raise issues quickly and propose alternate solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • An ability to impact change and results without close supervision.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure that 8th Light builds and manages a diverse network of developers and technical professionals inside and outside of our immediate communities in order to match available talent (supply) with client needs (demand).
  • Create and ensure the maintenance of a dashboard that showcases the internal skills and availability of our employees and external talent that is ready to be deployed, matched against anticipated demand.  The dashboard should, as much as possible, make use of existing data sources, e.g.Portal, HubSpot, etc.
  • Manage and deliver global subcontractor relationships, contracts, and talent pipelines in order to quickly fill roles that 8th Light can’t fill with internal 8L employees.  Establish efficient and effective SOP’s on subcontractor management, including vetting new potential partners. 
  • Advise on all aspects of the interview and hiring process. This includes coaching our teams on job expectations, job descriptions, shaping relevant candidate pools, interview processes, training and hiring decisions.
  • Drive a positive candidate, employee, and subcontractor experience throughout the entire process - from the initial point of contact, through the interview and offer stages, start date, and project assignments.
  • Maintain legally compliant processes that highlight talent attraction, encourage career growth opportunities, and support a personalized employee experience.  
  • Derive data-driven insights that inform the strategic direction of talent decisions at 8th Light, making recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team.  
  • Effectively manage, coach, develop and retain talent team members in order to maximize their skill set while growing the capabilities of the talent function.  
  • Develop plans and processes to maintain operation of key talent functions (e.g. staffing) when employees are on PTO or otherwise unavailable.

Compensation: The salary range for the role depending on years of experience and geo-location will range from $110,000 - $150,000
