Ever since Anna-Mi Widman joined Built In four years ago, she’s had a vision of user retention through personalization. “We have so many different types of users,” the product director explained, citing engineers, product managers and data scientists, among others. More users means more data, however — and data makes it harder for users to find what’s relevant to them. “Personalization solves this.” Now, Widman finally gets to execute on that vision, and the business impact can’t be overstated. “We’re bending that retention curve and bringing users back more often.”

“Built In’s vision is helping tech professionals achieve their career goals, but Built In does that for its own employees,” said Sandhya Hemakumar. Since joining the company a year ago, she's been delighted by the autonomy she has to pitch new tools and technologies to leadership. “We move at a very fast pace, so there’s a lot of room for development.” Hemakumar is currently building a new testing strategy that will allow for faster product rollouts, and said there’s been great collaboration between product and engineering. “We worked together in planning a roadmap from the get go.”

“There are plenty of jobs where the software you’re building is not used by you.” That’s not the case at Built In. CTO Ravi Budigelli said he joined the company nearly two years ago because he understood the ‘why.’ “I can completely relate to the challenges jobseekers face. Engineers who work here can make the job-seeking experience better not just for themselves, but for everyone in the world. There’s a multiplying effect.”
