Peak6 is jumping across the pond.
The Chicago-based fintech and investment company announced on Thursday that it is hiring 160 software engineers, product managers and scrum masters in Northern Ireland over the next four years.
The company received more than $1.35 million (1.04 million pounds) in government incentives for locating in Belfast. Judi Hart, chief operating officer, said the company chose the capital city for its tech talent and existing corporate ecosystem.
“The Belfast team will innovate industry-specific technology solutions that will enable transformation across our companies and focus on the research, development and delivery of new products to help us achieve our ambitious growth plans,” Hart said in a statement.
Northern Ireland Economy Minister Diane Dodds said that Peak6 will help the country rebuild its economy, and estimated it will generate about $11 million in annual salaries once the positions are filled. Peak6 joins 100 other global technology companies that have located to Northern Ireland, like SAP, Bazaarvoice and Rakuten.
“Our strength in financial technology, cloud solutions and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, continues to attract businesses to invest here,” Dodds said in a statement.
Although this does not represents Peak6’s first time hiring abroad, the Northern Ireland office does represent the company’s first investment of a major office overseas.
Peak6’s major brands include Evil Geniuses, an e-sports company headquartered in Washington; National Flood Services, an insurance provider based in Montana; and Apex Clearing, Capital Management and Strategic Capital investment companies in Chicago. The fintech and investment company also operates offices in New York, California, Oregon, Kansas and Texas.
The company is also growing closer to home. It currently has 30 open positions listed in Chicago, with available roles including a chief operations officer, senior engineer, senior project manager and more.
