Renting spaces through platforms like Airbnb is an experience usually reserved for special occasions such as traveling or weekend retreats. Often these properties have unique features like a Treehouse lodge but must be rented for a one-night minimum. However, a new platform lets users rent spaces — such as private pools and gyms — on an hourly basis, and it is launching in Chicago first.

NockNock was founded in Berkeley, California, and like other short-term rental platforms, users can sign up to either rent out their own properties or book a rental through the platform. On the NockNock platform, however, hosts can rent out a bevy of spaces beyond just bedrooms for one hour at a time. According to its website, home offices, music studios, gyms, pools, rooftops, home theaters and even garages can be listed as hourly rentals.

The platform is a method for hosts to make passive income while users get access to amenities they might not otherwise have access to. Users can also rent these spaces for cheaper rates by booking them for a few hours rather than an entire day.

Currently, NockNock’s website lists several vetted locations throughout the Windy City that are available for rent and can be booked for as little as $10 an hour. NockNock will use the city as a proof of concept for its product before making the service available nationwide.

“The NockNock team determined Chicago would be the perfect market to launch their operations due to its uniquely diverse neighborhoods and endless possibilities to offer exciting rental spaces such as an in-home insect museum, state-of-the-art kitchens, rooftops with breathtaking views of the city and much more,” the company said it a statement.

The company was founded by Charles Ferguson, the Academy Award-winning director behind Inside Job and other documentary films.
