What's It Like to Work at Turion Space?
Turion Space Employee Perspectives
Tell us about your company's mission. How does that mission influence the company culture? Did that mission impact your decision to join the team?
Turion is developing, building and operating critical space technologies to better understand the space domain and fill capability gaps of current space-based assets. Turion's long-term mission is to mine asteroids, which requires infrastructure and technologies that have not yet been invented or demonstrated. Due to this, Turion is developing dual-use technologies with that vision and goal in mind that help solve current problems for our government and commercial stakeholders. Our mission and method of getting there are significant drivers for cohesiveness and collaboration, which drove my decision to join the team and even return after spending time at another company.
From your perspective, how does your work connect to the overall company mission?
Due to a large portion of my department’s work being research and development, my work is heavily driven by Turion’s mission (both short- and long-term). This is highlighted by the recent work in developing several imaging systems optimized for characterization of non-Earth objects as well as a suite of algorithms to generate insights from the data that these systems will generate.
What advice would you give a jobseeker hoping to join your company?
Turion is looking for driven engineers eager to solve complex problems. Aside from technical aptitude, willingness to learn and step out of comfort zones is always something that I hope to see from candidates. Especially within my department, we do not hire people to focus on a single problem throughout their tenure here and look for people who want to apply themselves to the increase of overall team impact towards company goals.
