As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for a Data & Innovation Intern to join our team in Northbrook, IL or Chicago, IL.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Learn & Achieve
The Data & Innovation team works in partnership with the Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) Customer Operating Units, Customer Experience, Commercial Excellence, Transformation & Innovation teams to build a unified customer experience and implement digital strategies to lead the industry. This is done by continuously evaluating operations and examining internal and external customer feedback to identify and develop ways to improve and transform our processes, systems, and tools aimed at helping employees meet and exceed our customers' needs.
As an intern, you'll solve real-world challenges, sometimes spurring innovations that change the way we do business. You'll have the opportunity to learn while doing. You'll collaborate on exciting projects, not only with talented peers, but with top leaders in your field-most of whom began as interns themselves. You will work across the TIC organization on projects aimed at achieving optimal results and service excellence, which may fall in one of the following areas:

  • Global Market Access Services and Requirements
  • Assist in the creation of digital solutions that leverage machine learning to predict outcomes from mechanical testing.
  • Process automation, implementation of AI models in UL Solutions processes
  • Program Management/Communications - Coordinate projects and their interdependencies
  • Interface with Business Unit Leaders, manage stakeholders' communication, and escalate roadblocks accordingly


QUALIFICATIONS
What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Rising senior currently pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Business or a related field.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, coordination/planning and reporting skills
  • Experience using statistical computer languages to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Python coding skills. Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Knowledge of project management and portfolio management tools (Visio, MS Project, Miro, Aha) is a plus
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, additional language can be a plus
  • Ambitious and resourceful self-starter who works well independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to remain driven and focused in a hybrid work environment (you will be in the office at least 3 days/week)
  • Interest in working with and learning from leaders at all levels of the organization
  • Indefinite right to work in the United States.


What we offer

  • Total Rewards: The hourly rate for this role is $27.00. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus to assist with housing, travel, and other relocation expenses, subject to terms and conditions. Your internship will consist of a 10-12 week long project, networking, learning & development opportunities, and will provide you with the opportunity to make a real world impact.
