POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is aligned with managers of an operational area in Claims to develop actuarial analytics and monitor results of loss and claim count data. This position will help Analysts 1 and 2s translate operational performance into a financial impact for a business unit outside of Claim. This position leverages an understanding of relational database structures to compile, analyze and present data. An Analyst 3 will develop and communicate results that provide actionable insights.  An Analyst 3 will work with leaders in different functional areas inside Claims and the broader organization including Product Management, Actuarial, Finance and Data Science. An Analyst 3 will have an opportunity to participate in predictive modeling projects working with the Data Science team. Analyst 3s should have strong personal and situational awareness. They understand how they are being perceived by others and are learning to tailor the message for the audience and situation with some direction.                 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Navigates inside the Claims organization effectively with limited direction.
  • Performs analyses using actuarial reserving methodologies to provide insight into the impacts of environmental, operational, and systems changes.
  • Analyzes trends in data and translates impacts to calendar and accident periods.  
  • Extract data using SQL or NoSQL to identify an operational or environmental trend impacting the financials.
  • Direct with Analyst and Senior Analyst professional development via mentoring.
  • Ability to develop meaningful insights and communicate with supporting data and the appropriate tool
  • Consistently uses best practices to document and organize work.
  • Proactively monitors internal and external factors influencing income statement & balance sheet.
  • Handles multiple competing priorities effectively with limited direction.
  • Demonstrates mastery of coverages, Claims Operational Processes and functional areas while interpreting results and trends.
  • Communicates concisely and clearly using all mediums.
  • Handles multiple competing priorities effectively including long term projects.
  • Some travel may be required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of Actuarial Science, Data Science, Economics, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering - Mechanical or Electrical.
  • 3+ P&C Insurance Experience
  • 4+ year of actuarial work experience.
  • ACAS strongly preferred
  • Advanced skills with Tableau, Python or R or other programming language               
  • Ability to apply descriptive analytics to analyze data and validate assumptions
  • Ability to do variance analysis independently. Uses advanced techniques to describe incremental contributors to total variance.
  • Ability to apply actuarial reserving methods.
  • Ability to extract data using SQL or NoSQL.
  • Ability to mentor

  • This role can be worked hybrid at a local Kemper office or remotely for a non-local candidate.

The range for this position is $79,500 to $132,900. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors.  This job is also eligible for our Kemper benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
