Make your mark on the Actuarial Team

Our Actuaries are on the front lines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG’s major insurance operating companies, globally. We collaborate with Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Risk Management, among other functions. As an AIG actuary, you will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential to help improve how we predict, manage and mitigate risk.

How you will create an impact

The North America Specialty Reserving Lead will be responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow of analysts on the team with the responsibility of coordinating and reviewing the reserving process and results for North America Specialty. This key role will be highly visible, as you will have the opportunity to interact with and advise senior management. We are looking for an individual who has the ability to work independently, is pragmatic in their approach, can manage multiple projects to strict deadlines, and is driven to enhance existing processes. 

  • Lead the day-to-day work of the team and work together to ensure timely and accurate delivery of the North America Specialty reserve results and local reporting requirements.

  • Ensure consistency in reserving approach across products within North America Specialty and with global standards.

  • Collaborate with North America and International reserving management to develop consistent and efficient processes globally.

  • Review and report upon reserves across North Specialty to Head of Global Specialty, North America Management and wider business.

  • Consolidate North America Specialty reserving results into key MI and present to senior business leaders.

  • Support the Global Specialty Reserving lead in managing the schedule of reserve reviews for all North America Specialty products.

  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place for the reserving process, support and be the point person for Actuarial for the annual audit reviews, independent reserve reviews, internal audit and SOX reviews for North America Specialty products.

  • Develop efficient or improve existing processes for the management and presentation of reserving information across Global Specialty.

  • Reports jointly to Head of North America Actuarial and Global Specialty Reserving Lead.

  • Act as an independent lead within the GS team ensuring best practice across reserving and, longer term, other actuarial functions.

Technical Skills and Expertise

  • BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field

  • FIA or FCAS preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience in commercial lines

  • Experience of reviewing and managing reserving processes.

  • Experience of setting reserves.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes

  • Ability to work collaboratively across disparate stakeholders, respond and prioritise work effectively.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Customer focus
