Develop process designs and techno-economic evaluations, collaborating with teams and utilizing simulations for new technologies, including generating engineering packages.
Responsibilities
Advanced R&D Engineer Scientist for UOP LLC (Des Plaines, IL)
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Develop process design and technoeconomic evaluations which are critical to the development and support of new process technologies from their inception in R&D through the commercialization stage.
- Work with other members of the Development organization, as well as UOP's Engineering Department, Research Group, and Business Team.
- Develop simulations, material balances, preliminary equipment designs and utilities estimates for new process technology concepts based on preliminary yield & performance estimates.
- Use commercial process simulation software to establish the basis for the evaluation and optimization of design concepts.
- Perform techno-economic analyses (TEAs) of process concepts including the assessment of key parameters impacting process profitability, safety, and reliability.
- Generate Basic Engineering Packages (BEPs) for new process technologies as the primary means of transferring new process technologies from R&D to Engineering.
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Qualified applicants must have a PhD or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of experience in modeling, process simulation, process development, or reaction engineering of refining, petrochemicals and/or gas processing applications.
- In the alternative, employer will accept a Master’s degree in the above-listed fields and 5 years of experience in modeling, process simulation, process development, or reaction engineering of refining, petrochemicals and/or gas processing applications, or a Bachelor’s degree in the above-listed fields and 7 years of experience in modeling, process simulation, process development, or reaction engineering of refining, petrochemicals and/or gas processing applications.
- Full term experience must include: experience and capability in statistics, experimental design, data analytics, and advanced parameter estimation and numerical methods; familiarity with machine learning, data science tools and algorithms; computer programming skill; knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals including fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer and reaction engineering; exposure to UOP technologies: Renewable Fuels/Refining/Petrochemicals/Gas Processing applications; and knowledge of Six-Sigma principles and their use in managing risk and uncertainty.
- Approximately 10% domestic and international travel required.
- Telecommuting permitted up to two (2) times per week.

The annual base salary range for this position is $128,190 - $164,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
