AI Model Training Domain Specialist

About Lily AI:

Lily AI is a female-founded retail AI company empowering retailers and brands by bridging the gap between merchant-speak and customer-speak. Leveraging generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, and machine learning, the Lily platform enhances customer shopping experiences by analyzing product catalogs and automatically enriching the assortment with the natural language consumers actually use when they search and shop. The platform then distributes the optimized data across a retailer’s entire ecosystem from their website to Google Ads and beyond, ultimately delivering upwards of 9-figure revenue lift through improved product attribution, enhanced discovery, increased traffic and higher conversion.

Overview:

Lily AI seeks an AI Model Training Domain Specialist to work on a range of tasks for the purpose of training and tuning Artificial Intelligence development, and overseeing the overall quality of AI outputs with a focus on ensuring both relevance and accuracy. The AI model trainer is responsible for supporting the training and optimization of machine learning models used for retail product attribution. The work involves feeding the model with relevant data to enhance its effectiveness in understanding merchandise products and assigning accurate, relevant and contextual attributes, synonyms and other relevant information.

You will be a member of a team of retail industry experts with responsibility to analyze product images and text to inform the assignment of words—attributes, synonyms and phrases—that best describe that product in the language of both the retail industry as well as an ordinary consumer.  The information will be used to improve models that are the foundation of Lily’s AI suite of retail solutions.  As a specialist in the categories of fashion, home and beauty, you will seek to ensure that the quality of our AI-generated and automated attributes continues to improve and achieve higher percentages of accuracy and relevance. You will balance the assignment of words that reflect how the industry desires to speak about their products with words and phrases that reflect real-time and more typical consumer search terms and natural phrases that are used everywhere people shop and search (eCommerce sites, social platforms, Google, etc.).

Reporting to the Manager of AI Domain Excellence, you will have direct exposure to sales, customer success, product, engineering, and executive leadership across the Company.

In this role, you will:

Data Annotation and Analytics

  • Understand and apply a dictionary of merchandise attributes to fashion, home and beauty products using internal programs for automation training
  • Evaluate image and text samples and annotate with descriptive words, synonyms and labels
  • Curate and shape the data to train the models effectively
  • Map the core Lily AI product taxonomy to the client’s product taxonomy, and ensure coverage of Lily categories available to map to client categories
  • Interpret data, identify patterns, extract insights and use the information to help the machine learning team to improve the performance of the Lily AI models and related automation (this could include anything from analyzing consumer search data to studying latest retail market trends to help the models stay up to date and relevant)

Quality Control

  • Become a domain expert and perform quality control on pre-annotated data sets
  • Review AI-generated product titles and descriptions for accuracy and completeness
  • Audit our external vendor annotations for quality and to improve vendor performance for accuracy, speed, and relevance

Retail Merchandising Expert

  • Understand fashion and styling terminology (passion for fashion!)
  • Share expert knowledge and research about specific products, brands, retailers and marketplaces

Be a Member of a Team that Supports and Enables Others

  • Become an expert in our value proposition and offerings, to develop processes, tools and training to help Sales & Customer Success differentiate and defend
  • Provide constructive feedback to Lily Product and Engineering teams on tooling and processes for more efficient labeling, and to improve data quality
  • Support Marketing with product and trend information to inform compelling content that establishes Lily as an industry authority and generates interest

What we consider critical for this role:

5+ years experience in retail, ideally in merchandise buying / styling / private label design / product development

  • Native-level fluency in English (US)
  • Highly self-directed with ability to meet deadlines, and understand and follow operating workflows
  • Responsible, reliable and proactively communicative
  • Able to maintain sharp focus with repetitive tasks for long periods of time
  • Meticulous attention to detail - discrepancies and inconsistencies stand out to you and you seek resolutions
  • Flexible and adaptive to updated priorities and changing workflows; willing to support multiple parallel projects and accept reprioritization as necessary
  • Eager to learn; proactively asks questions to grasp the ‘why’ behind both processes and technical rules/requirements regarding data assignment, clean-up and movement

You will stand out if you have:

  • Merchandise expertise in the categories of Fashion, Home and Beauty, specifically
  • A love for both the retail industry as well as emerging and modern technology
  • Prior experience with data labeling and annotation
