Overview of 66degrees

66degrees is an end-to-end AI transformation partner that guides enterprises from complex business challenges to clear, quantifiable outcomes. Our company is the culmination of several successful firms, each a leader in its own right in cloud, artificial intelligence, and data. This convergence of talent and expertise is how we help businesses reach their own "inflection point," where chaotic data becomes a strategic asset, complexity becomes clarity, and AI becomes an engine for growth. Our ultimate vision is to be the catalyst for a future where every business operates as an intelligent enterprise, with autonomous systems unlocking human potential.

At 66degrees, we believe in thriving through challenges and winning together. These values not only guide us in achieving our goals as a company but also for our people. We are dedicated to creating a significant impact for our employees by fostering a culture that sparks innovation and supports professional and personal growth along the way.

Overview of Role

As an App Development Architect, you'll be at the forefront of solution design, defining technical roadmaps, making critical architectural decisions, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex application projects. You'll mentor development teams, promote best practices, and drive innovation across our application development lifecycle, primarily leveraging the power of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and modern container orchestration.

Responsibilities
  • Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and architecture of robust, scalable, secure, and high-performance applications, defining technical standards, patterns, and best practices.
  • Container Orchestration & Strategy: Design and oversee the deployment of containerized workloads, specifically leveraging Kubernetes (K8s) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to ensure high availability and efficient resource management.
  • Solution Design & Strategy: Translate complex business requirements and user stories into detailed technical designs, architectural blueprints, and implementation strategies.
  • Technology Selection: Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, frameworks, and platforms, with a strong emphasis on GCP services and cloud-native architectures.
  • Technical Guidance & Mentorship: Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, conducting code reviews and ensuring adherence to architectural principles (such as 12-factor app methodology).
  • Performance & Scalability: Design solutions that meet stringent performance, scalability, and reliability requirements, utilizing GKE’s auto-scaling capabilities to handle evolving needs.
  • Integration Strategy: Define strategies for integrating diverse systems, including APIs, microservices, third-party platforms, and legacy applications.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with clients, product managers, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure alignment between business goals and technical solutions.
  • Roadmapping & Innovation: Contribute to technical roadmaps, staying abreast of emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML integration, serverless, Service Mesh/Istio) to drive innovation.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential technical risks, particularly regarding infrastructure security and cluster management, proposing mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software development, with at least 3-5 years in an Application Architect or similar senior leadership role.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes: Deep, hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing production-grade clusters; Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) experience is strongly preferred.
  • Cloud Mastery: Proven track record designing and deploying cloud-native applications on GCP.
  • Modern Patterns: Strong understanding of Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, Serverless, and N-tier applications.
  • Language Proficiency: Expertise in Java and at least one other modern language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, C#).
  • Data Modeling: Proficient in designing data models and selecting appropriate database technologies (Relational, NoSQL).
  • API & Security: Extensive experience with RESTful API design, API Gateways (e.g., Apigee), and secure development practices.
  • DevOps & Automation: Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Helm), and automation tools.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and present complex architectural designs to stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Flexibility: Readiness to work in shifts and the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative, global team.
