GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:
Applications Engineer will primarily work on applications related to Ultrasonic Welding and related joining processes. This person will provide customers with feasibility evaluations and assist in determining part joint designs for appropriate methods of assembly. Assist with Domestic and International travel may be required and travel is estimated at about 10-15% of the time. Will support the Corporate Quality Policy and, using TQM concepts, principles and tools, will make continuous improvements in work processes.
POSITION FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Provide technical expertise in plastic joining to other applications engineers, sales force and customers.
- Communicate with the customers (external and internal) in a professional, effective and timely manner.
- Provide feasibility evaluations and reports, quotes and other necessary information to meet customers’ expectations.
- Create and maintain documentation necessary for product development and manufacturing that conforms to ISO standards and TQM practices.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Communicate effectively to Manager regarding the progress on scheduled projects, progress on achieving goals, and the results of any research conducted.
- Work and communicate effectively with other groups within the engineering department, division and corporation (as well as with outside suppliers) in a positive manner to achieve timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Test and de-bug final tools prior to run-off with customers.
- Travel to customers’ facilities to assist in product design.
- Assist in post-sales start up at customers’ facilities.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Prevent and resolve customer problems. The emphasis should be on prevention.

QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences or equivalent work experience is required. Training in mold design or tooling design is a big plus. Project management skills are required.
MANDATORY SKILLS:
Working knowledge of the modern manufacturing processes and practices. Good oral and written communication skills, ability to work in the fast paced environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Strong Analytical skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is a must.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
Basic mechanical aptitude, previous plastic joining experience and/or a working knowledge of Creo CAD software is a plus.
