As an Application Design Engineer, you will use your knowledge of heat trace engineering fundamentals to design effective solutions for today’s industrial needs using Emerson heat trace products.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Collaborate with other applications engineers, internal sales and/or customers to formulate project scope, engineering estimates and final designs for customer applications
  • Perform piping, equipment, and other design take-offs from mechanical piping isometric, plan, elevation, and general arrangement drawings
  • Develop a detailed understanding of each application to determine what combination of Emerson products offer the best solution.
  • Work in Nelson Design Suites software to evaluate application requirements and create optimized designs and circuit layouts
  • Partner with project Leaders and other designers to produce technical drawings required for proper installation and documentation of the heating system including heat trace isometric drawings, panelboard schedules, control panel schematic drawings, power location plots, etc.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical, safety, and industry standards and codes.
  • Apply foundational electrical engineering principles, including Ohm’s Law, to perform basic low‑voltage electrical calculations.
  • Follow all Emerson safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites to provide scope development, installation, and system startup technical support.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering or other applicable industrial technology education
  • At least 2 years of electric heat trace design experience in industrial piping and equipment applications 
  • Basic understanding of applicable electrical and heat loss calculations
  • Knowledge and understanding of hazardous location standards NEC/CEC/IEC/ATEX/IEEE
  • Proficiency in all application design requirements of IEEE 515 / IEC IEEEE 60079-30
  • Proficiency using data analysis and documentation tools such as Microsoft Excel
     
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Customer facing project leadership experience
  • AutoCAD drafting experience 
  • Power distribution and sizing design experience
  • Software experience with Bluebeam Revu
  • Industrial electronic controls / PLC experience

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $105,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
