What You'll Do

Perform financial reporting and analysis, accounting and internal control compliance and special projects for Marmon’s Transportation Group, with revenues approaching $2.5 billion. This position reports directly to the Transportation Group VP of Finance. Seeking a high potential candidate with geographic mobility and the desire to be a company controller in 2 – 3 years. The candidate will either work in-office out of Marmon’s Chicago headquarters or reside at one of the business units, with a strong preference for the former.

Monthly Activities:

  • Consolidate, review, and analyze business unit financials and related schedules to identify trends, issues, and opportunities
  • Distribute final consolidated financial statements, forecasts, and other reports to management team
  • Assist in the creation of monthly financial report to Marmon Executive Management
  • Book any required General Ledger entries for the Group level (e.g., profit in inventory elimination entries)
  • Distribute and ensure adherence to reporting deadlines by the business units and work closely with Marmon’s Corporate Accounting team to resolve any outstanding questions, intercompany accounting mismatches, and other items

Quarterly Activities:

  •  Review quarterly analytics provided by business units and work closely with the business units to revise as needed
  •  Prepare & validate financial statement certifications for the Group and review and analyze business unit submissions 
  •  Assist in preparing Group presentations for Quarterly Business Reviews with Marmon Executive Management
  •  Assist with review and analysis of Benchmarking report prepared by Marmon Corporate
  • Analyze customer, competitor,  industry news, and filings to develop and disseminate market intelligence to Group leadership

Annual Activities:

  • Manage the annual budget consolidation process, including offline consolidation of “first look” reporting, consolidation of prelim and final submissions, budget change management, generation and distribution of reports and analysis, and identification and resolution of issues throughout the planning process (inaccurate or incomplete data entry, etc.).  Assist with the preparation of budget presentation materials, including financial reports and other materials presented to Senior Executive Leadership.  Participate in annual budget meetings with Group and business unit leadership, gaining visibility to financial plans, growth efforts, and long-range strategic thinking.  Participate in annual financial budget presentation to Company CFO.

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Internal Audit as well as Platform and Business Unit Controllers to review business unit audit findings, working with business units to ensure effective and timely remediation.
  • Perform Group-led “spot-audits” of business units (GAAP, company policy, and SOX) and assist in reviewing effectiveness of remediation / closure actions as reported by company controllers; compile best practices and common findings and disseminate to business unit management.
  • Assist in the review and approval of capital expenditure and restructuring requests; perform post audits of significant capital and restructuring projects.
  • Assist in evaluation and due diligence of potential acquisitions; assist with post-acquisition integration efforts (adoption of company policy, operational changes, implementation of Marmon policies, etc.)
  • Be a power user and a Group resource for OneStream (Marmon’s forthcoming reporting and consolidation software)
  • Become an expert on Marmon’s accounting and internal control policies
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and other one-off / special projects
  • Respond to and coordinate data collection, aggregation, and reporting for various special analysis requests from Group management and Marmon
  • Leverage new and available tools to continuously improve Group’s back-office communications and review processes to reduce administrative overhead

What You'll Need

  •  7+ years of progressive experience in accounting/financial analysis positions
  •  Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset a must
  • Ability to operate independently and multi-task
  • Audit experience strongly preferred
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Position requires 10 to 20% travel, and offers the opportunity for international travel

Pay Range:

113,332.80 - 169,999.20
