We’re looking for an Associate Producer who thrives in a fast‑paced newsroom and is excited to help build compelling, competitive newscasts for Chicago and its surrounding communities. If you love collaboration, value feedback, and understand that strong television news is a true team sport — especially when news doesn’t stop on weekends or during off‑hours — we want to meet you.

This role works closely with Producers, Directors, Anchors, Reporters, and Digital teams to stack, write, and edit video for daily newscasts and local programming. You’ll play a key role in shaping our storytelling, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strong visual presentation under deadline pressure.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with multiple production needs across broadcast and digital platforms
  • Stack, write, and edit content for multiple newscasts during a shift
  • Collaborate with reporters on scripts, packages, and live shots
  • Contribute to editorial decision‑making, including graphics and visual elements, particularly during breaking news
  • Research stories using the internet, video archives, and newsroom resources
  • Help showcase big stories in a clear, compelling, and visually engaging way
  • Edit video and assist in producing new or expanded newscasts
  • Post stories and segments to digital platforms as assigned
  • Serve as a fill‑in Producer when needed
  • Always maintain ethical journalism practices and newsroom content standards

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of newsroom experience in a television news environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, TV/Film, or equivalent experience
  • Strong writing skills with excellent grammar, attention to detail, and sound news judgment
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of visual, written, and verbal storytelling
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with producers, reporters, anchors, photographers, digital, production, and engineering teams
  • Strong sense of journalistic integrity and understanding of audience needs and expectations
  • Knowledge of brand‑building directives and newsroom standards
  • A team‑first mindset with a willingness to learn, adapt, and support the newsroom
  • Flexibility to work weekends and varied shifts as newsroom demands require

SALARY RANGE: $60K - $70K Annualized - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
